Smart Lipo Vs. Tummy Tuck, Which am I a Candidate for? (photo)

So my orginal thought was to get a tummy tuck after i lost about 50lbs. Now i'm no where near a doctor so i sent him pictures and he recommended smart lipo. My main concern isn't so much the fat even though i'm having a hard time with this last little bit on my lower abs. My main concern is the skin.. What do you guys think? After smart lipo will my skin tighten up enough to have a flat stomach?

A: Smartlipo does not tighten the skin that much

It is impossible to make a recommendation without a full exam.  Looking and feeling your skin quality is absolutely necessary.  I purchased my Smartlipo machine after being told by the company and other physicians how it tightened the skin.  I feel that it tightens the skin is some patients a little bit.  I was very disappointed to find that the hype is mostly hype.   The reps from the laser companies (realize these machines cost about $125,000) keep pushing the "our new machine is even better" line but in the end I myself do not believe it.  The tightening effect is no more in my opinion than seen with other types of liposuction such as ultrasound assisted liposuction.  If you have very loose and damaged skin, the skin will be looser not tighter with any of these types of liposuction and you will need a tummy tuck.  Don't believe the advertising that promises tummy tuck results with smartlipo.  Ask the surgeon offering this procedure to see pictures of patients similar to you that he/she performed and not laser company stock photography.  I wish I could answer your question specifically rather than being vague however I would suggest going to see a board certified plastic surgeon who has all of the technologies available to him/her so you can get some good advice!

Anesthesia-Feeling in Places w/ Lumps and Bumps - Normal?

did translucent smartlipo inner and outer thighs, and arms.4 weeks ago. in my arms, when i do put them up, i feel like things are stretching inside.and the place where needles entered, i don't feel them as normal as the other areas when i touch them,i feel like as if there is still anastesia ,and also lumps.is it normal ?

A: SmartLipo of the Arms

It is normal to have areas of temporary altered sensation after Liposuction; the incidence may be slightly higher with Smart Lipo. All liposuction traumatizes the sensory nerves that run through the fat into the skin. This is a temporary injury with almost universal recovery to normal. When Smartlipo is used on the arms, the fat reduction is just below the skin; resulting in more temporary trauma to the sensation.

areThe tightness that you feel is the skin tightening that is the major goal with laser lipo.

Irregular areas and areas of hardness are common after liposuction. They will soften as the healing progress continues.

You should be returning to your surgeon to ask these questions and for your follow up care.

Good luck,

Skin Damage After Smart Lipo and PAL

i am a 30 yo male who had a "high definition" procedure on my abdomen, flank, and back 2 weeks ago. i have both the smartlipo and power-assisted lipo. i have noticed that the skin in areas over my flank and lower groin have blanching red patches as well as some speckled pigmented patches. basically, my skin appears different. i was in very good shape with abs prior to this but wanted more definition and the removal of my flanks which have always been difficult to get rid of through boxing/exericse and diet. does anyone know if these are burns or damage to the dermal blood vessles that may be showing up as a strange pigmentation on my skin. i am worried that this could be permanent and I may have just ruined my life. ill attach some pictures. the surgeon says that its from the laser energy and will take a few weeks and go away and i should wait at least 6 weeks before i can tell anything. im just curious.

A: 2 weeks post op Smart lipo and PAL

The photos that you have posted are limited; however it appears to be a normal 2 week appearance. Surgery is trauma and your body must respond to the trauma and heal. This does not occur in two weeks. You should expect  6 weeks  to 3 months of swelling and stiffness. Most bruising resolves in 2-4 weeks, but rare types of discoloration take longer to resolve. If your surgeon is experienced in liposuction, he should be able to guide you throughout the healing process.
