How Long Does Sculptra Take to Work?
Sculptra works by voluminzing and generating collagen from the injections. Most patients can see some result by about 6 wks after the first treatment, but I recommend at least 2-3 treatment sessions. The collagen that is generated can continue to provide volumization for up to 24 months.
Why do some doctors only inject sculptra at the front of the face and not at the sides? Is it because this would involved superficial injections that would risk showing lumps if they formed?
Sculptra can be injected in both the anterior part and lateral parts of the face to increase facial volume in those areas, if it is indicated there. It is usually injected in a subcutaneous plane in that area. The risk of lumps from Sculptra has been low, if the product is properly reconstituted and hydrated ahead of time. A consultation with a trained Sculptra injector would be the first step to treatment.
How long does a Sculptra procedure last once all smile lines are gone? What is needed for maintenance/touch up?
I usually tell patients that after full correction is achieved, the Sculptra "lasts" about 2 years and generates collagen that continues to rejuvenate the patient. I recommend that the pateints receive 1-2 vials every 6 to 12 months for the ultimate results and to keep the volume they desire.
