Blepharoplasty on Women of Color Without Cutting to Prevent Scarring- Who Can Do It?

Chicao has a surgeon who can do blepharoplasty without cutting on women of color (Dr. Julius Few). He goes in thru the lower eye lid. Is there an east coast plastic surgeon who does the procedure this way?

A: For many patients lower eyelid surgery can be performed without cutting the skin

For lower eyelids, surgery can often be performed by making a cut on the inside of the lid.  This technique avoids any skin incision.  This is a great procedure for many patients but you would need a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon to decide if this procedure is right for you.

If you want to ask if a doctor does the procedure, it is called a transconjunctival blepharoplasty.

I hope that is helpful.

Retinia Detachment and Cosmetic Surgery on Eyes- Am I a Candidate?

I've had retinia detachment and would like to have cometic eye lid surgergy. I s there danger my retinia can detach again?

A: Eyelid surgery and retina detachment Eyelid surgery and retinal issues are separate problems that should not have an affect on each other. Especially once the retinal problem has been treated and is healed. This can be explained best by your retinal surgeon or even better, an ophthalmic plastic surgeon, who is trained In both eye care and plastic surgery.

What is the Location of the Scars for a Lower Blepharoplasty and How Noticeable are They?

I'm having a lot of trouble locating pictures of the scars that come from a lower blepharoplasty surgery - both post-op and long-term. Where can I find these? What is the location of the scars, and how noticeable are they?

A: Scars are rare in lower blepharoplasty

There are two basic ways to perform a lower blepharoplasty.

  • If you just have excess fat and not extra skin, the surgery can be safely performed with incision inside of your lower eyelid.  In that case the incision is totally hidden inside of the eyelid and is invisible.
  • If you have excess skin then an incision is made on the lower eyelid, just beneath the lashes.  Skin in that area heals very well and noticeable scars are very rare.

Hope that is helpful.
