Tooth Bonding on Front Teeth Discolors Easily, What Can I Do For This?

I have bonding on 6 of my front teeth. For the most part, I am happy with the look, but the bonding discolors easily. I have tried sticking to light colored beverages and applying petroleum jelly to them before I drink coffee or red wine, but this is so inconvenient and I still get some discoloration. Is there a way to prevent the darkening or to lighten them at home once the discoloration occurs? Do you recommend veneers instead? Thank you.

A: Tooth bonding stain, what are my options

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having regarding your bondings that were done.  Based on what you are saying your better option may be veneers.  Veneers do not stain at all and they last a lot longer than bonding would.  Talk to your dentist and find out what your options are.  Good luck

Can I Get Back on Track? I Went 2 Months Without Trays.

I was a GREAT INVISALIGN patient for the first 10 trays, I wore them as I was supposed to and kept up wih my appointments etc. My 11th tray was very difficult to put in/out (more so than the others) and painful so I started getting less diligent. I then left the state for 2 months, and forgot my trays at home. I'm back, I wanted to get back on track but #11 doesn't fit... I can't find Tray #10 but have all my others. I'm SO EMBARRASSED to call the doctor, it's mortifying. Advise please?

A: Off track with invisalign, can I get moving in the right direction

Sorry to hear about your problem with Invisalign.  I have head patients disappear for a lot longer than 2 months without wearing their trays and they have been able to continue treatment successfully.  Do not feel embarrassed to call your dentist and explain to him/her your issues.  You should go back to the tray the fits and then continue moving along again.  The dentist may need to do what is called a mid course correction if you are unable to find a tray that works.  The worst thing to do is not call the dentist and inform him of the problem.  Should not be a big deal.  Good luck

Tooth #8: Internal Beaching or Porcelain Crown? Discolored(pink) and Slight Fracture

About 3 weeks ago I had a trauma to my mouth and my #8 tooth (front) has become discolored pink and has a slight fracture on the surface. I have been to a dentist and an endodontist. My tooth still responds to the vitality tests but it is just discolored and has a slight fracture.Digital radiograph in 2 weeks. Does a tooth turn back to a natural color after several months? I would like to know more about the pros and cons for internal bleaching and if it lasts. Would a porcelain crown be better?

A: Internal Bleaching or Porcelain Crown

Sorry to hear that you suffered trauma to your front tooth.  I am glad to hear thought that you have seen an endodontist and have been evaluated.  Trauma can be unpredictable so it is too early to tell what will happen to the tooth over the next few months.  As long as the tooth remains vital and does not need a root canal, internal bleaching cannot take place.  Speak to your endodontist as well as your dentist to see what you options will be with or without a root canal
