4 Weeks Post Op Circumferential Body Lift, Incision Split And Am Draining. Should I Worry?

I am 4 weeks post circum.. body lift, I have 3 superficial splits, one on my left approx 2", my Dr has me doing a wet dry pack since stitching isn't and option. 2 days ago a sprung a leak in my incision below my belly button the size of a q-tip head and I now notice another hole approx 2" to the right forming. My Dr just tells me it's not uncommon but 3 seems excessive to me. How many more before I need to start worrying? If I'm not done draining then why would my drain tubes be removed already?

A: Delayed healing after body lift

A body lift is an extensive operation, requiring long incisions and multiple layers of sutures in the closures.  Areas of delayed healing are not uncommon, but despite the aggravation and anxiety of the prolonged wound care, the results are usually not compromised.  It seems like your surgeon is instructing you properly with the treatment you described.  Going through this can be extremely stressful, but patience and continuation of the wound care will get these openings to close.

Is There a Chance Your Skin Can Shrink Back After a Weight Loss of 100lbs or More?

I am 5ft 3in tall. Just had lap band put in place on Aug 19. My max weight was 320lbs (In June) and I am at 286ish now. I have been overweight most of my adult life but not considered morbidly obese until the birth of my now 4 year old daughter. I would like to be a healthier weight, between 140 and 160 to me, seems reasonable, is there a chance my skin will shrink to fit my body or is it likely that I will need surgery to get rid of loose sagging skin?

A: Skin shrinkage after massive weight loss

When somebody is morbidly obese, the skin stretches tremendously.  Many people will have stretch marks, indicating that the elasticity of the skin is gone.  When the weight is lost, skin with no elasticity will generally not shrink.  Though I will not say it is impossible, I would be very surprised if it did.  Therefore, you will most likely need surgery to remove the excess skin and recontour your body after losing 100 pounds.

Does a Body Lift Mean You Will Be Trimming Excess Skin off my Body?

What kind of sensation should I expect during recovery? Are some areas for likely to feel numb or tingly compared to other areas?

A: Body lifts definitely remove extra skin

After massive weight loss, extra skin may gather in various places on your body- abdomen, waist, back, arms, thighs, buttocks, etc.  Each area can be treated with a procedure to remove this excess residual skin.  A body lift typically removes the the excess skin from the flanks, buttocks, back, and outer thighs.  The remaining skin is lifted and secured upward to correct the sagging.  I often use some of the excess back skin to augment the buttocks, which can look flat after a body lift.  Body lifts are often coupled with abdominoplasties, so most of the torso gets corrected in one combined procedure.

Often, there is numbness or other sensory changes in the operative areas that can take over a year to resolve, but sometimes the recovery is not 100%..
