I Read That Fat Cells Come Back After Liposuction and Tummy Tuck. Is Weight Loss Harder?

I'm considering a tummy tuck with liposuction. I read the results of a study that the fat cells redistribute after such procedures. My question is do these procedures make weight loss more difficult after surgery? Is there a correlation to the weight of the fat cells removed and weight gain after surgery? What is the optimum bmi of body fat procedure for a tummy tuck? Can Is it possible to achieve optimum results from a tummy tuck with out liposuction of areas such as the flanks?

A: Fat after liposuction and Tummy Tuck

We all have and always will have fat cell in our bodies. Fat cells can regrow after removal and they can also get bigger with fat storage accumulation. The amount of fat in our bodies is the result of how many calories we take in and how many we expend, along with some genetic factors regarding distribution. We all have different metabolisms which may account for the differences in fat accumulation even when we are taking the same numbers of calories.

A tummy tuck is almost always made better with liposuction except in fairly thin individuals. Although there may be some minor redistribution of fat the overall results should be a significant improvement in body contour.

Is Neck Liposuction or Chin Augmentation Right for Me?

I am a 23yr old female looking to improve my side profile. I have a lot of fat under my chin and this causes an awful side profile. It also shows from the front. From what I've read neck/chin liposuction could be a good option. Also chin implants seem like another possible idea.

A: The neck, chin and facial balance

Unfortunately we cannot see you nose. That is important when considering the chin. The neck looks great when you pull back the skin so liposuction would be a great way to go. Regarding the chin, an implant makes the results better but only if the chin is recessed or if the nose is too far out.

What Fat Removal is Best for Me? (photo)

Hi! I am 18 (fully developed) looking to remove love handles. My tummy & thighs also, but mostly love handles b/c they are stubborn & won't go away. I was originally for SmartLipo but b/c it takes up to 6 months. to see results, I wanted something that could permanently kill fat cells in that area so it doesn't grow back (in case of pregnancy weight gain when older)& take up to 2-3 months. to see results & is also safe! Is there a fat removal surgery that does this? If not, what are my options?

A: Fat removal

There are 4 ways to remove fat, all have positives and negatives:

1. Diet and exercise, success is variable but still a good idea

2. Non-invasive-CoolSculpting and Zerona-results are subtle and may require multiple times but, they are non surgical-3 months to see final results

3. Liposuctioning-traditional, power assisted, ultrasonic, laser, water assisted-all require some type of anesthesia, all have some bruising and swelling, results start at 7-10 days and maximize at 6 months with the majority of improvement at 3 months. Laser assisted liposuction has been shown to help contract the skin

4. Surgical excision-tummy tuck, body lift etc-requires general anesthesia and has a recovery time up to 6 weeks. Takes care of both excess skin and fat. Large scars. Pain. Best contour results

You are a good candidate for liposuction and in my opinion the laser would be the best, ultrasound next best. You are also a candidate for a tummy tuck with liposuction of the hips at the same time.
