Are there any complications caused by a diastasis abdomen condition, and if so, is a mini tummy tuck the only corrective option I have?
Diastasis, or separation, of the rectus abdominis muscles (the six pack) is a common condition after pregnancy or large weight gain and has no medical consequences other than a rounder abdomen. It is usually repaired during a tummy tuck to get a flatter younger looking contour for the abdomen. It is uncommon now to do mini tucks because the full tuck gives so much better overall results. You would really need to see a board certified Plastic Surgeon to examine you and give you the options that would help you meet your goals.
When are mini tummy tucks possible without the need of general anesthesia? http://www.pelosimedicalcenter.com/tummytuck_faq.htm
For most individuals a general anesthetic is used for a full abdominoplasty, mainly because to get adequate muscle tightening the patient needs to be paralyzed and that can only be done under a general anesthetic. I have performed mini abdominoplasties under sedation with local anesthesia on selected patients with excellent results. It really depends on the individual and the extent of the procedure and what your physician feels comfortable with.
Am I a good candidate for lipo, full or mini tummy tuck? I'm 36 years old, and have kids. Thanks!
It is very difficult from photos alone to determine which procedure would best meet your needs. Often patients are candidates for all three procedures, with the realization that there are limitations to each procedure. For example, liposuction alone will get rid of any excess fat in the abdominal region but will not help with abdominal wall laxity or excess skin. If abdominal wall laxity or loose skin is the major problem then either a full abdominoplasty or mini tuck would be more appropriate. Cost and limitations of the procedures often play a factor in the final decision.
