Long-term After Tear Trough Fillers

Hi, I had restylane and teosyal fillers injected last night for tear troughs. So far not too bad but swollen on one side particularly. I am now worried about the long term effects. What will I look like after a year or so when the filler fades as I have read horror stories about people having saggy, loose skin after the filler dissolves?

A: Some people do well with HA's in the tear trough some have problems.... It is too early to say how your result will turn out. It may look great after the swelling goes down. In my experience some of the hyaluronic acid fillers can have issues in that they can absorb water from the surrounding tissue and give an appearance of bluish bags in the thin skin of the eyelid. As a result I have switched to Radiesse for this area as it has been more reliable over the long term. The good news is that if you have a problem there are threatments available. I hope this helps.

Is a Doctor Obligated to Correct Restylane Injections?

I went to an experienced occular surgeon for restylane above and below my eyes. I have lumpiness and swelling under both eyes, obvious enough for friends to comment on. I went back to the surgeon and asked about injections to minimze or dissolve the lumps but was instead injected with more restylane under my right eye, which (over two weeks post) made it worse. I would like to have have the restylane under my eyes disolved all together at this point. What is the occular surgeon's obligation to me as a patient and paying customer?

A: Restylane around the eyes is tricky

I am sorry to hear about your bad experience with Restylane around the eyes. It is tricky to inject anything in or under the thin skin around the eyes and lumps and bumps can occur. Hyaluronidase is an option to dissolve the material. It can take several injections to work.

You might want to go elsewhere and find a doctor who is skilled at the technique. You most likely will have to pay to have someone else work on you. If you feel confident with your doctor you could bring up the possibility of Hyaluronidase injections.

Perlane Vs. Restylane, What's the Difference?

Before i get to the doctors office for my next appointment i want to know why a company called medicis is selling 2 products called "perlane" and "restylane" even though they are the same ingredients according to the website?  i want to get fuller lips and hide wrinkles.  Which injection, restylane or perlane, do I ask for?

A: The are similar fillers

For your application-lips, I would use Restylane rather than the thicker Perlane which is designed for deeper folds and lines. We are finding that both products last over a year and if injected properly you should have a great result.
