How Can I Prevent Bruising from Restylane or Juvederm?

whats the secret to minimizing bruises from wrinkle injections like juvederm or restylane? Should I apply ice to the area of injection?

A: Restylane and Juvederm Bruising, prevention

While there is always a risk of bruising with any injection, they can be minimized by using ice to the treatment area BEFORE the injection.  If a bruise does occur, it can be minimized by placing ice over the treated area AFTER the injection as well.

In addition, the use of the smallest possible needle during the injection will minimize the risk of injuring a small blood vessel and therefore reduce the risk of bruising.

Thee are the measures you can take to minimize the risk of bruising with restylane or juvederm treatments.

Lumpy Ridges and Bruises After Juvederm

I had Juvederm injected under my eyes for hollows. This was done almost 2 weeks ago. I have bruises under both eyes and small pillow-like ridges under both eyes. Is this normal? How long do the bruises last? What are these puffs of pillows?

A: Juvederm lumpiness and juvederm bruising

As with all injectable materials, bruising can result with an njection that hits a blodd vessel.  This is something that we all try hard to avoid, but unfortunately, a small percentage of patients will bruise.  We do try to minimize these problems by injecting sensitive regions with  a small needle (one that has a higher guage ie 30 guage is commonly used.)  This minimizes the risk of bruising.

In terms of the lumpiness, this can result if a bruise occurs, and it may also exist if the material has not been placed smoothly.  The nice thing about juvederm is that it is malleable (soft) and your doctor can massage it into place to improve the lumpiness.  In addition, if all else fails, the juvederm can be dissolved with another simple injection.
