Will I Be Able to Close my Eyes After Eyelid Surgery?

does the eyelid surgery leave the lids pulled open more so, causing difficulty to close them?

A: Can I close my eyes after eyelid surgery?

No, you will be able to open and close your eyelids after eyelid surgery. It may be slightly more difficult initially due to swelling of the eyelids but should not prevent you from being able to fully open or close your eyes.

What Type of Anesthesia Do You Recommend for a Facelift/upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery?

Is twilight anesthesia safe for a 4+ hour facelift, bleph. upper and lower

A: The person giving the anesthesia is more important than the type of anesthesia

The two sides, general vs. I.V. sedation, for facelift surgery will continue to argue with each other until long after I retire, which I don't plan on doing for many years.  There are advantages to both and disadvantages to both. The most important consideration is not the type of anesthesia being given but who is delivering it.  The anesthesia should be given by an experienced board certified anesthesiologist or certified nurse anesthetist (CRNA) who is being supervised by an anesthesiologist.  There is actually very little difference between a 'light' general anesthetic and a 'heavy' I.V. sedation.

How Much Physical Discomfort is Felt Immediately After Eyelid Surgery?

My eyelids will be lifted out of my field of vision. Is that a pretty painful correction? Will the pain be similar to the pain of an irritated boil?

A: Upper Eyelid surgery is minimally painful

You should xxpect minimal pain after upper eyelid surgery. Our patients rarely require any narcotic pain medication for this. If there is severe pain after this type of surgery, it is actually concerning and should be reported to your surgeon immediately.
