my surgery is on february 4th and my doctor told me I should atleast stop smoking a whole month before my surgery and after the surgery. I think I can handle not smoking after the surgery but I stopped smoking for just one day and I felt really depressed and bored. I heard that I should stop for atleast 2 weeks before the surgery but my doctor said I should stop for a month. so, why is it different with every doctor and what if I stopped smoking for just 2-3 weeks before my surgery,is it OK?
Stopping smoking 2-3 weeks before a rhinoplasty is NOT enough time. Delay your surgery until you have stopped for a month at the very least. I, in fact, require 2 months. It takes that amount of time for the nicotine to be excreted and for your tissues to recover to a reasonable vascularity to make the procedure safe. You are doing this to improve your looks. If you have a complication and a part of your nose dies, the resulting problem will be hard if not impossible to repair and you will live with the disaster the rest of your life.
Hi I'm 21 and I fell into a binge with coke for about 8 months .well just this nov I had scabs and yes I picked them or blew them out, well here comes dec and here comes the scab! I blew the hole thing out!! And I look up there with a flash light and there is a hole , I freaked out I'm very depressed over it and always worring about it, it's not too big but one side is bigger then the other! Please help! I have stopped using also someone please tell me how I can help this close! Thanks!
This is a very common problem. Fortunately problems from it are not as common. This can be repaired, but I would not do so until complete healing has occurred (about 6 months) and you have been off cocaine an equal amount of time (again, to allow the healing to occur). By this time you can also tell if the hole is causing any symptoms such as breathing problems, bleeding crusting, etc. If not, you will need to do nothing.
Hi , i had a radiess injection about 5 years ago , it seems like the material is still inside until now , i consulted a platic surgeon in chicago and he said it might be the radiess , scarring tissue or collagen that had replaced the filler . I'm planning to have a real rhinoplasty around christmas , i want to know if it's safe to surgically remove these fillers ? what are the risks and what's the reason of it lasting so many years ? I heard it usually dissolved within 2 years or so . thanks !
At 5 years from injection of Radiesse, it is either incorporated into the tissues or has stimulated the body to make its own collagen (support tissue). I have seen both. Operating on this is no different than operating on a nose that has scar from an injury or previous surgery. Even if there is calcium hydroxyapatite (the basic structure of Radiesse), it can be cut, carved and moulded like the rest of the tissue. By paying attention to the blood supply of the nasal tissue, I have never had a problem with someone with Radiesse present.
