I'm 36 but Would a Mid-facelift Improve my Long Face and Nasolabial Folds? (photo)

I have noticed nasolabial folds since I was 32 and it is worse on the left side of my face. Since then, I had 2 vials of juvederm ultra injected into my cheekbones and the left nasolabial fold and now, 6 months later, it is already bothering me again. Even right after the procedure, it did not see to do that much. I would like something more permanent and something that would show more improvement, but have been told to wait till I'm older by 2 surgeons. Would a cheek lift solve my problem?

A: Deep nasolabial fold treatment

The question is whether they can ever be fully corrected.  Not all features of "aging", like the Nasolabial folds" are only present as one gets older...some, are present at birth...Deep Nasolabial folds, low brows, full upper lids are not just signs of aging, they are facial features that are present at birth.

If you've had these since you were a child, then you will get improvement with a number of treatments, ranging from fillers to a lift, but not eradication.  I hope this helps..

Best,

Dr. Phil

How Are the Results of Threading Compared to a Regular Face Lift, Especially for Excessive Jowling?

Does face lift threading produce the same results as a traditional face lift?

A: Less invasive facelift options

Here is the really good news in answering your question-  a facelift can do wonders in correcting the jowl area.  A well-done lift will give you a smooth jawline that looks more youthful without looking overdone or unnatural.

Nothing short of a facelift will adequately treat the jowl/neck area.  Thread lifts were subject to a lot of hype and media attention but failed to live up to their promise.  Remember to avoid quickly accepting every product advertised or featured on TV or on line.  Wait for real clinical studies to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of treatments.

What Level of Pain is Considered Normal After a Facelift?

Should prescribed pain meds be able to numb the pain? If they do not, is something else wrong?

A: Is recovery from a facelift painful?
  • Facelift surgery is extensive surgery, but fortunately it is not particularly painful. Sometimes there can be minor soreness near the ear incisions, but the majority of the face and neck region can feel somewhat numb for a few weeks.
  • The dressings can be slightly "uncomfortable", but typically not too bad!.  My facelift patient generally have an easy recovery. It is probably an easier recovery than breast or tummy surgery in terms of pain.  Eyelid surgery can be more uncomfortable because of the swelling, however.
  • Each person reacts differently to anesthesia and surgery, so it is tough to predict each person's individual outcome.  The overall odds are that you will find your recovery relatively easy.
