I can't think of a single thing to criticize. It all went perfectly. He gave me his phone number after the surgery and was very helpful in answering all of my questions. To break down the cost, I paid $4500 for the surgery, $1900 in hospital fees, and $2200 for the anesthetic.

I must give most of the credit to Dr. Jamali who made it possible for me to have my surgery. He is a very caring and compassionate doctor. Just when my insurance refused to pay for my surgery he reduced his fees and even spoke to the hospital who agreed to charge me a discounted rate. He was there with me from beginning to end of my surgery and hospital stay and continued to see me every other day for the first 2 weeks following the procedure. He takes pride in his job,he works like an artist so perfect. If you ever need to do this type of surgery he is the best Doctor he takes pride in his work and you would not be disappointed he is the best. I thank God for sending me to him. I made the right choice. I wish him many years of success in his profession.

Maxillomandibular Advancement Surgery Cured my Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Fixed my Weak Jaw/Chin - New York, NY
Here are some of my reflections about Dr. Jamali from working with him over the last several months: Professional and cordial - Dr. Jamali is very serious about his work. But, he’s also very friendly and approachable and makes you feel at ease from the first conversation. He listens very attentively to whatever you have to say and answers every question thoughtfully, no matter how silly you may think your question is. You never feel like you are being talked down to or rushed. He treats you like a partner in the process. Attentive to detail, understands facial harmony and aesthetics – During the initial consultation, after sitting down and speaking with me about my sleep apnea, Dr. Jamali carefully examined my face, took photos, and took 360 degree and standard x-rays. Then he spent the next few days carefully studying the images, alongside the results of my sleep study. He concluded that I would benefit most from a Lefort 1 osteotomy on my maxilla, and a bilateral sagittal split osteotomy and sliding genioplasty on my mandibula. In our follow-up appointment a week later, he sat down with me and showed me carefully rendered technical drawings that he had made on tracing paper from my x-rays. By placing his drawings on top of my actual x-rays, Dr. Jamali gave me a very detailed picture of exactly how my jaw and chin would change in relation to the rest of the skull and the precise measurements and degrees/angles of those changes – something I wouldn’t have gotten from computer imaging alone. Even though the procedure was done for medical reasons, Dr. Jamali still made sure that the results were aesthetically balanced. I’m thrilled to say that I no longer suffer from sleep apnea and have a vastly improved jaw and chin as well. His training, knowledge, attention to detail, careful planning, and excellent eye for aesthetics made this possible. An advocate for his patients – My insurance provider did not initially approve the procedure. So Dr. Jamali went through the entire appeal process, submitting more than what was required, and finally, speaking at length with one of their doctors. As a result of Dr. Jamali’s determined efforts and genuine concern for my welfare, the procedure was ultimately approved. Gentle – Dr. Jamali placed surgical braces on my teeth the day before the surgery. Since this was to be done under local anesthetic, he had to inject me several times deep into my gums to numb them. It wasn’t fun, but Dr. Jamali was as gentle as could be, asking me how I felt every step of the way and apologizing if I ever showed any signs of discomfort. Dr. Jamali was also extraordinarily gentle during the actual surgery. I know that because the swelling in my face is nowhere near as bad as it was for others who had had similar procedures done and whose photos I had seen on the Internet. In fact, after only 1 week, I would say about 80% of the swelling that I had on the day following surgery is gone, so much so that you wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at me that I had undergone such a major procedure. This is because Dr. Jamali was very careful and gentle during the surgery. Thorough – Prior to the surgery, Dr. Jamali spoke to me personally, in detail, about all of the possible complications related to this procedure, such as: swelling, facial numbness, changes in appearance, risk of infection, adverse reaction to screws and plates, etc. He could have just sent me home with generic, printed, post-op instructions, but he wanted to be sure that I understood exactly what I was about to go through. Because of this, I felt surprisingly at ease going into surgery and felt quite prepared for the recovery as well. And to his credit, there have been no surprises so far in the recovery process – he covered everything. Accessible – Just prior to surgery, Dr. Jamali gave me his personal cell number so that I could text him with questions or concerns any time, day or night, during the recovery process. Whenever I had any questions about my symptoms or needed more medication, he was always quick to respond. Caring – Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Dr. Jamali was this: While I was recovering overnight in the hospital, he stayed in the room next door to mine so that he could monitor my recovery and make sure that I was being cared for properly. What other doctor would do that? Excellent staff – While this isn’t a reflection on Dr. Jamali per se, I feel it is important to note his excellent staff because you will be working with them just as much as you will be with Dr. Jamali himself. They are all extraordinarily helpful, very organized, and super-friendly. Sometimes I would call or email the office several times a day with questions but they would always be courteous and prompt with their replies. They always made sure that all of my paperwork was in order and submitted in a timely fashion, especially to the insurance company and hospital.

Dr. Jamali saved my life! From the first consolation I knew everything was going to be okay. I was nervous still, of course, after having my first experience go so wrong… but I still had a confidence in him. A few of the things I loved about him worth noting: Realistic - He told me that even in the end it still wouldn't be "ideal" or quite as projected as it should be. He didn't want to risk moving my bone too far and having further complications in the future. This I appreciated, I didn't have false hope. Artistic - Instead of using computer imaging, Dr. Jamali traced over my X-ray and drew the before and anticipated after by hand. He said "I'm the one doing the surgery, not the computer right?" I loved this! He said that every time he had to sit down and draw something, it forced him to go over the steps of surgery in his head, so it's like practice in a way. He actually sat there with a ruler and protractor and gave me precise measurements of where I was and what is ideal and what he thought we could bring it to. Caring - Even though we didn't think insurance would cover any of this (cosmetic), he still took the time to submit the claim to my insurance company in hopes that they would at least cover the removal. He also spent 2 hours with me at my first consultation, and allowed me to come back for another one without charging me anything extra. Gentle - In and out of surgery I believe he tries to be as gentle as can be. This was a more traumatic surgery than getting the implant and the recovery was far less difficult. I was less swollen and less bruised this time around, due to Dr. Jamali making sure he didn't tug and pull too hard! And afterwards, taking out my stitches and pulling off the tape wasn't even a thing. I didn't even know the stitches were already out! Knowledgeable - Every single concern that I came into Dr. Jamali's office with (and there were many), he had a knowledgeable answer and explanation for. And he assured me that any of the concerns I had that had to do with the actual skill of the surgeon, were nothing to be afraid of as he was confident he would do everything properly. The reasons above are why I rated the "overall rating" and "bedside manner" with five stars. I rated everything else with five stars for these reasons: Answered my questions: Even when I asked him if I would go off in metal detectors or ever be able to get an MRI, he still didn't look at me like I was crazy. Every single question I asked he had a knowledgeable answer for. Aftercare and follow-up: Dr. Jamali gave me his cell phone number and personal email address to get in contact with him after surgery. Emails were answered within a couple hours and phone calls were answered immediately. He even emailed and called ME a few times to make sure everything was okay and ask me how I was feeling. On my appointment with him 5 days after surgery, he didn't just look at me and tell me I was all good, he took 2 more X-rays to make sure. He checked my sutures inside my mouth and underneath my chin (where the implant was taken out of), and when I started feeling dizzy because I hadn't eaten yet he had his receptionist actually go downstairs to the streets of nyc to get me an orange juice!! Time spent with me: As stated above, 2 hours for each consultation! I never felt rushed. Phone or email responsiveness: stated above Staff professionalism and courtesy: Any of the ladies that were in the office were sweet and fast and never made me feel like I was a nuisance for being there, like some doctors' office staff do. Payment process: I didn't want to put everything on care credit, but I didn't have enough to pay him his entire 4000$ fee at once, so he let me give him $2000 up front and pay $500 each month for the next four months. This will help me so much and I don't have any interest fees because it's not credit! Wait times: Never waited more than 5-10 minutes to see him. I'm only on day 10, but so far I am thrilled with the results, even with the swelling. My face has never looked so balanced and even though it's hard to open my mouth and chew and laugh, it still feels so good to have that thing out of my face! And I don't think I could have had a better experience with Dr. Jamali.
