i had a lower face lift one month ago and i have bald patches infront of my ears have lost my side berns how long will it take to grow back if it will
Hi Laura in London,
I'm sorry you are going through this. It must be very difficult. I will do my best to help.
Not having any photos to look at, I can think of two possibilities. Some surgeons will shave the hair around the sideburn area to make it easier to sew the incision back together, as well as assisting in suture removal at the one week mark. If the surgeon performed a short scar facelift, there should be an incision horizontally under or within the sideburn hair. If you can see an horizontal or curved incision extending from the top of ear towards the corner of the eyes, as well as some shaved hair above and below the incision. If this is the case, then it will take some time for the shaved area to grow back fully.
Another possibility with this type of incision is that there is a lot of tension on the incision below the sideburn, and as the skin stretches, the widening scar does not grow hair, and will appear to be a bald spot within the hair above it and the hair below it.
The other possibility is that the incision is vertical deep inside the hairline directly above the top of the ear. The incision is intentionally hidden inside the hairline. Depending on the patient, sometimes there is so much looseness of the cheeks, that as the cheek skin slides back, a significant amount of the side burn hair gets pushed back toward the vertical incision and when the surgeon trims the excess skin, the patient appears to have lost their sideburns.
I don't know which is the case for you.
Best,
Dr. Yang
can a Dr who had Maxillofacial training with costmetics training do lower face lifts just as good as a plastic surgeon?. 'm looking for a lower lift and the Dr. said he could do but he is not a plastic surgeon. Please Advise
You need to seek a board certified plastic surgeon or a board certified facial plastic surgeon for your facelift. You are asking us if a dentist/oral surgeon is capable of performing a facelift because they have additional cosmetic training and I think the consensus is no way. Don't be fooled into thinking that a "certified cosmetic surgeon" is anything more than a weekend course and a $300 dues fee.
I'm considering Lower Face Lift but I would like to try fillers first. I am 49 years old.
The answer to your question depends on several factors, including your appearance, the severity of the aging which you want to correct, your feelings about surgery, ability to have time off for recovery and your pocketbook. For some patients who have early jowling, facial fillers can delay a facelift by at least 5-10 years. During this time, they can build a relationship of trust with a plastic surgeon. For patients with limited financial resources, filler offers the opportunity to improve appearance without a significant expenditure. All of these considerations can be addressed in consultation. I find that many of my female patients who work want to do something but are just not ready for a facelift---and that's fine so long as they understand the limitations of filler.
