Painful Face 4 Days After Jessner's Peel

I had the peel nearly 4 days ago and this pain is getting unbearable! It is constant, I do not dare to open my mouth more than half an inch or make any facial expression. My face is still red and peeling. And although the area around my mouth and chin has already shed it appears as though it is going to shed again! I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD FOR YOUR SKIN!!! Was there a mess up, do I need to go see an MD?

A: Post peel instructions

Did the person who did your peel explain to you how to take care of your skin after the Jessner's peel? Post-peel care can be as important as the procedure it self. It sound like you are very dry. Consider moisturizing with pertolatum about 4 times a day but also talk to a doctor.

How Often Can I Administer a Jessner Peel at Home?

I went to a spa and had a Jessner Peel. I did not get all the peeling they said I would. They told me after the third day if I did not have much peeling I could go back in for a thicker layer, I did not have the peeling expected but, was not able to go back in due to an emergency. I am interested in trying the at home kit but, read that you need to do at least 6 treatments to get better results. How long should I wait before treatments if I decide to do that at home tx. Thanks

A: Jessner's peels are not for at home use

Just because you didn't get the amount of peeling you expected after a chemical peel doesn't mean that the peel did not work.  Peeling varies from peel to peel.  This also does not mean that it is safe to do a Jessner's peel yourself.  Administration of a Jessner's peel generally requires a professional license.  Reputable companies that sell theses peels require purchasers to provide a license before they will sell them the peeling agents.  Sometimes patients are able to get the peels illegally on the internet.  This does not mean that is is safe to do this type of peel at home of you are untrained and unlicensed.  Do you know the risks of doing the peel?  Do you know how to manage the potential complication?  It is adviseable that you get a peel of this strength from a professional.

Skin is Darker 1 Day After Jessner Peel Please help, my skin become darker after one day of Jessner peel. There is no redness, but large dark area, will it go away. No, I didn't use the lightening system before the Jessner peel. Will my skin be better after peeling? Or it will be worst than before. Thanks,
A: Darkening of skin after Jessner's peel may be normal...

Commonly after a chemical peel the skin may darken and scale before it comes off.  To make the peeling process occur more quickly, don't pick, rather apply a rich moisturizer liberally.  If you have any tenderness, discuss it with the person who did the peel.  Sometimes brown patches, also know as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), occur after a chemical peel if the skin gets irritated.  If PIH occurs after a Jessner's peel, it is usually minor.  It can go away on it's own or you can treat it with a bleaching agent you get from your dermatologist.
