A: High dose Accutane (isotretinoin): Is it safe to double dose if having symptoms?

Dear Cachonda,

If the doctor prescribing your Accutane is not a board-certified dermatologist, I recommend you see a board-certified dermatologist who has experience with Accutane, in person, in the office, to have the conversation about whether it is appropriate for your doctor to double your dosage. Accutane is a complex medication with many side effect risks which is only appropriate to treat recalcitrant (hard to fix) acne. You are describing a "high liver", by which I assume you mean high liver enzyme blood levels, and joint and muscle pain. No internet question and answer by doctors who don't know every detail of your personal health history and your actual blood test results could answer this appropriately. Please find a second opinion in person. You are right to question this, but that doesn't mean it's a wrong choice if your situation warrants it and the medication is carefully managed by an experienced dermatologist.

I've Been off Accutane for Some Time Now but my Acne is Coming Back

Been off accutane for months and my acne is coming back. Is it possible to take my leftover 40 mg dose once a day like I have been? I have quite a bit leftover Bc my physician gave me the option of taking once or twice daily

A: only take Accutane under the supervision of a doctor I do not recommend restarting Accutane on your own. In fact, this is a violation of you ipledge agreement. It is not safe. Work with your doctor and do your lab tests to monitor for side effects. It sounds like your acne may be returning because you did not complete the course. Whether your doctor said to take it once or twice a day the total amount of drug you take should be the same. If you take it once a day, you would take it for twice as long. Again, visit your doctor. Can Acutane Prevent Me from Becoming Pregnant?

Can acutane prevent me from becoming pregnant? I had sex without taking any BC pill but am scared i will get pregnant, but later remmember that since am taking ACUTANE it might as well prevent me from getting pregnant. Am i right?

A: Accutaine does NOT prevent pregnancy

To be clear, Accutane does not prevent pregnancy.   It is not a form of birth control.   In fact, it is very worrisome to become pregnant while taking Accutane, as the medication causes birth defects.  If you are concerned you are pregnant stop the medication right away and discuss immediately with your doctor.
