QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Is Sofwave a good treatment option to lift and tighten the thighs?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
The technology of Sofwave may be helpful to tighten skin on the body, not just the head and neck but for large areas I would wait for engineering to have a larger handpiece that the provider can use which will cover a larger surface area and be more efficient for big areas. It is not practical to work on an entire thigh but I have used it for creases above the elbows, creases above the knees and for crepy skin around the abdomen and upper inner arms.

Areolase or Sofwave? Which procedure would deliver better results for slight skin laxity in the lower cheek and neck? (photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Sofwave and Ultherapy are the most effective skin tightening non invasive devices of which I am aware of that are on the market. This is their only FDA indication. It is not a laser or device that has multiple uses. Their design involved much research and development to tighten lax, loose or sagging skin. I have had many satisfied patients who have demonstrated very good results after having Sofwave and/or Ultherapy on faces and necks.

Can Botox and fillers help with nasal flaring when smiling? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Botox can be used off-label to treat nasal movement with smiling such as nostril widening and nasal tip being pulled downward towards the lip with mouth movement. It's best to see an experienced provider for this treatment who will discuss the risks. Start with low dose. It's best to return for more units if needed than putting in too many. Botox may drift or may be placed in unwanted muscle areas affecting mouth opening, smiling, eating, speech, asymmetric or unbalanced smiles, create difficulty brushing ones teeth, etc.

Will Botox migrate if I wear a surgical mask immediately after getting Botox in masseter, temporalis, 11’s, and forehead?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Many masks are not going to apply worrisome pressure to Botox insertion sites but it is best to avoid a strong strap that tends to be on N-95 masks and maybe some others, if the strap is putting so much pressure on the exact area of the Botox insertion, especially if it overlies a bony prominence. Those tight straps sometimes cause a temporary indentation of the skin for an hour or more after wearing the mask and that should be avoided.

Will Botox help my upper lip to go down so my teeth are covered? (photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Treating a gummy smile relaxes the muscle pull of the upper lip which lessens the exposed gum in those individuals who manifest this when smiling. I receive great results with this treatment. Your teeth however, are exposed at rest and Botox may not relax the muscles of the upper lip enough to reduce the opening of your mouth. I'm not certain why this occurred after your headgear treatment for your overbite. You may need to see a plastic surgeon or oral maxillofacial surgeon for an opinion.

Can Fraxel make acne and spots worse?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Short term acne flares can occur after laser resurfacing and having done many Fraxel laser treatments in the last 20 years I have had patients who I have seen with short term acne breakouts but no one with long term acne in the treated areas. Fraxel laser resurfacing has been a significant  part of my practice along with other treatments for acne scarring such as punch grafts and microneedling.

Can I have Ultherapy two weeks after Sculptra?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

I prefer to do ultherapy first then follow it by the series of fillers or Sculptra.  Although sculptra is placed in the subcutaneous tissues it is possible that Ultherapy may reach that plane in certain areas of the face, especially with the 4.5 mm. transducer, and I question if the Ultherapy does heat up the sculptra particles if that might cause an undesired reaction. So if I were to do Ultherapy after Sculptra I would choose transducers that were expected not to reach the depth of the Sculptra placement.

Ulthera for melting fat at jaw angles? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

As Ultherapy can tighten and lift the skin it may help lift the skin and fat together raising it over the jawline from where it had sagged from the lower cheek. Despite some claims on the internet, the Ultherapy company doesn't claim that it can reduce fat. When I intend to reduce fat on a facial or neck area, I typically use either ThermiTight or Liposuction or both. Kybella is used on the submental neck below the chin. ThermiTight heats the fat cells to the point that is expected to cause the death of the cell which is much higher than the temperature that Ultherapy can cause.

I am African-American. Does Ultherapy (skin tightening) cause skin discoloration?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Ultherapy has been considered "color blind" and in fact performed safely on many patients. However, I will often not use the more shallow, 1.5mm. transducer, on patients who may be prone to post inflammatory hyperpigmentation or melasma skin darkening, as this superficial energy compared to the deeper 3 and 4.5mm. transducers, tends to leave temporary swellings or welts for a few  hours or days. I am concerned that although most patients won't develop any skin darkening with such reactions, there will be some who may if the 1.5 mm. transducer is used.

Why does the treatment zone exclude the nasolabial fold area?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Smile folds and the valleys between the cheeks and the nose are not made less apparent by pulling on the skin and in fact, facelifts don't usually make smile folds look less noticable. Pulling on the skin can make the jowls over the jawline improve. Ultherapy is avoided in the smile folds and directly over the marionette line with the 4.5 and 3 mm. transducers. I have used the 1.5mm. transducer with Ultherapy to improve dermal collagen in those areas.

Mohs Surgery

Lidesimo

A true professional, amazing professional and a kind person

I feel so fortunate to have found Dr. Shelton. He performed Mohs surgery on my face 3 months ago. He was incredibly precise with his removal, and he stitched me up in a way that today nobody can even tell that anything was done. I was a nervous wreck when I learned that I had BCC and would need a surgery on my face! I’m in my early 40s and did not know many people my age who had this. I felt a sense of calm immediately upon meeting Dr. Shelton for my consult. He took a lot of time in our consult explaining to me what he would do during the procedure. The day of the procedure was nowhere near as scary as I had imagined, and Dr. Shelton’s calm demeanor made any sort of anti-anxiety medication unnecessary for me. The nurses and office staff were excellent. Dr. Shelton also successfully treated some redness on my scar with laser, and I like him so much that I plan to see him for cosmetic procedures unrelated to my scar in the future. I don’t normally post reviews or share this many details publicly, but if this review can help someone out there who is as scared of Mohs surgery as I was before I met Dr. Shelton, then it is worth it. He is excellent - a true professional, amazing professional and a kind person.

Sofwave

nburian

Amazing Results with the Sofwave at Dr. Shelton's Office!

This spring I had a Sofwave treatment with Dr. Shelton. I noticed on all of my zoom meetings that my face was looking more like a melted candle than I would like. I'm turning 40 this year and have really started to see the effects of time despite constant sunscreen application and an aggressive retinol routine. I wanted to address my aging concerns in the least invasive way possible, and, to be honest, I was a little skeptical after the treatment. The procedure was relatively painless and left no redness or pain afterwards (basically there was no indication that anything had been done whatsoever.) After a few weeks though, I noticed an undeniable tightening of my cheeks and a fading of my nasolabial folds. The overall appearance of my skin has also improved and, frankly, I look amazing. Friends and family have been telling me that I look great and I've been telling each and every one of them that it's entirely due to Dr. Shelton and the Sofwave. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that this procedure has made me look 5 years younger. I would recommend this procedure for anyone wanting to test the cosmetic dermatology waters who is not looking for drastic, facelift type results. The other wonderful thing is that the Sofwave is supposed to work continuously for many more months. I will absolutely come back for another maintenance treatment in a year.

Ultherapy

Evans222

Ultherapy + Dr. Shelton = Great Results

I am so happy with the results of Ultherapy with Dr. Shelton. I am 67 and have been seeing him for a number of years for other treatments. I was always delighted with the results, but during the last months after spending so much time looking at myself on Zoom, I decided it was time to take the next step and try Ultherapy. I’m so glad I did. I wanted something that would help me address the effects of aging as naturally as possible. I’m currently just past the 6-month mark and I can clearly see the change in the tone and contours of my face. My skin has regained some of the resilience it once had, though since the effects are gradual, no one is aware I have done anything. That’s what is so great about this procedure. I am surprised the results continue to improve. It was the perfect procedure for me at this time. I feel so fortunate to have Dr. Shelton as my doctor. He is expert, caring and honest. He studies your face carefully to determine what the best options are for you. He explains what to realistically expect and I never have to worry about being over-treated and ending up looking unnatural. Dr. Shelton is an exceptional doctor in his expertise, manner and aesthetic. I enthusiastically recommend Ultherapy, especially administered by an artist like Dr. Shelton!

Dermal Fillers

Amazing, Sweet, Patient Doctor & a Beautiful Human Being!

I saw Dr. Shelton for RHA filler. He is such an amazing and knowledgeable doctor. He spent a lot of time with me asking me what I want and explaining to me ways to achieve that. He explained the procedure to me at length and gave me suggestions of what I should do and where I should have the fillers injected. He listen to me and understood that I wanted to look natural and not overfilled and he did not try to push any product on me. I am very pleased with the outcome. I’ve tried out her derma fillers and this was virtually painless in comparison to the other fillers that I’ve received in the past. Dr. Shelton is very knowledgeable and has a great bedside manner! He also has extensive knowledge of facial anatomy and what makes a woman look natural and beautiful. He really has a gift for enhancing a woman’s natural beauty with a delicate touch. I really felt heard and understood and like we worked together to achieve the desired outcome. I would highly recommend Dr. Shelton to all my friends and family!

Would Only Trust Dr. Shelton with Laser Treatments, Very Happy with Results!

Pleased to share how happy I am with my results with Dr. Shelton. His expertise and level of professionalism far exceeded my expectations throughout the entire process. More than ten years ago a small bump began growing on the side of my nose. There was never any pain or discoloration but the asymmetry had always bothered me and seemed to have gotten worse over the years. I must have gone to dozens and dozens of dermatologists in the last decade and never received a proper diagnosis or plausible solution. Luckily I finally found Dr. Shelton. Immediately I knew I was in good hands; he knew exactly what we were looking at and possible options. Dr. Shelton is extremely thorough and he wanted to rule out Cancer so within the Laser and Skin Center they used a specialized non-invasive cellular imaging tool, Confocal Imaging, to get a clear idea of what was going on under the surface of the skin. I am very happy that he suggested this route, versus the usual Biopsy Excision option, as that would have left a scar on my nose. They're using top-notch cellular imaging systems and dermal lasers. What I had was Trichofolliculoma and he treated it with the appropriate laser. After years and years of unsuccessful doctor visits and time wasted, my nose is symmetrical again and finally I am no longer self-conscious about it anymore. I'm still amazed at my results, the precision and how perfect the contouring is - I just wish I knew about him sooner. I'd only trust Dr. Shelton with any future lasering, but hopefully I won't need any!! Couldn't be happier!!

Scar reducing

I have a traumatic scar on my face, Dr. Shelton reviewed all of my options with me. The thing I appreciated most was his honesty and having him tell me that my specific scar, though it could be reduced would most likely never be fixed. He's very gentle, I forgot the name of the procedure but he is amazing and trustworthy

A True Artist Who is Caring and Compassionate

Dr. Shelton is a wonderful and caring dermatologist and dermatological surgeon. He is an artist with cosmetic procedures and makes you look like a better version of yourself, not artificial or like someone else. He takes cues from you and never tries to have you do anything more than what you want or need. He's a rare gem and I'm lucky to have been under his care for more than 10 years.

Laser treatment to improve the scar!

Thank you, Dr. Shelton. First of all, I want to say that he is really a professional, rigorous and responsible doctor. I had a double eyelid surgery in 2016, but due to the poor effect, I did another repair operation in 2017. However, because the doctor was not good, there are obvious scars on my eyelids, people can see it when close my eyes. I have been very upset about this. In August 2018, after I did research on RealSelf, I made an appointment with Dr. Shelton. After some discussion, because my eyelids have been operated twice, it is no longer suitable for surgical removal of scars. He chose the method of using laser treatment to improve scars for me. I did the first laser treatment on 2018.8 and the second laser treatment on 2019.1.8. After two laser treatment, I can see that the scar has improved a lot! Dr. Shelton told me today, in the next few months, it will continue to improve! I will observe the progress of the scar in next a few months, and decide whether I need to do the third laser treatment! I’m so happy about that! I know I will feel more confident in the future! Thank you, Dr. Shelton, he deserves the trust of every patient!
