I want to laser off my tattooed half sleeve because I'm not satisfied with the work ... but I want to get a whole new sleeve on top of the same area where I want the old tattoos removed ... is this possible ? Or is it dangerous and bad for the skin ?
Many patients get a tattoo and then are not happy with the results and seek removal. Laser works great in the removal of these tattoos. You will undergo a laser treatment appoximately every 4-6 weeks for about 6 sessions. How quickly it is removed can depend on the ink coloring; black being the easiest where as green being a little more difficult and possibly requiring more sessions. When complete you should be left with close to the same skin you had prior to the tattoo. You may then get another tattoo over that area. Even if the tattoo is not completely removed, you can put a new tattoo over the old one. It is not dangerous nor will it harm the integrity of your skin. I would contact a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options.
I currently live in Austin, TX and have a small 1 x 2 inch tattoo of a awarness ribbon thats outlined in black (fine outline) and filled in with a purple. I was wondering if theres a rough estimate in cost and number of treatments..?
Tattoos are removed wtih lasers, done every four to six treatments. The energy is absorbed by the pigment which shatters into tiny particles in the dermis and then the skin's immune cells, the macrophages, can "gobble up" the pigment and carry it away to clear the tattoo. This costs between a couple hundred to several hundred PER treatment in doctor's office here in the U.S. There is a very slight risk of scarring. It may take 8 or more treatments and not all the pigment may go away. The surrounding skin could absorb the energy and cause darker and lighter coloration so discuss all risks with your doctor.
I have a large colorful tattoo on my upper arm(half sleeve) which is being treated performing laser tattoo removal. Due to the size and number of colors, several treatments are needed in order for the tattoo to lighten a bit more. I know it's a challenge to remove such a big colored tattoo and there's no guarantee about complete removal...I was wondering if is it possible to undergo skin resurfacing for improving skin texture(some scarring left from the first tattoo) before getting a new one.
Even the Fraxel Repair laser which is more gentle than the non fractional carbon dioxide laser, can cause scarring on areas of the body off the face. Fraxel Restore may help improve the texture.
