Blotchy Skin, Burns, and Itching After Portrait on Chest

I had Fraxel Repair on my face, Active FX on my neck, and Portrait Plasma on my chest 3 days ago. I got what I expected on my face and neck, but my chest is very blotchy, dark red, has burns, and itches. I have been doing the soaks and vasaline as instructed. How long will it take for my chest will take to look normal? Will it ever look normal again without scarring?

A: See your doctor

You must see your doctor to ensure that your healing is on schedule. They need to evaluate what you mean by “burns”. It’s normal to be blotchy, both red and brown and itching is common. But if there is a bright red very itchy firm area, this could be a situation that warrants attention to prevent scarring. The chest has a higher risk of scarring than the face. Portrait Plasma works very well for most patients and you may not have any problem to worry about but please call your doctor to be seen in the next few days.

Portrait or Fraxel Repair for Rough Textured Skin?

I'm a 64 yrs old with rough textured skin on chin and age spot on forehead. I'm thinking of Portrait or Fraxel Re:pair but the online complaints or poor results and pain have me questioning?

A: Laser resurfacing

It is not possible to see your age spot on the forehead. What is seen is a hollowing in the mid cheeks which causes the smile folds to deepen as the cheek falls against it, and the jowls are starting to drop. Neither the Fraxel Re:pair or Portrait will give you a face-lift look. Pan facial volume augmentation will help the droopiness and can improve texture of the overlying skin. Then reassess your condition and see if you want skin resurfacing for sunspots and fine lines. There is a risk of scarring with both Portrait and Fraxel Re:pair. It is very important to consult with an experienced physician. The Portrait gives a more natural appearance sooner, usually within two to four weeks, healed by seven days normally. The Fraxel Re:pair will cause redness for several weeks, healed by four to 12 days. The Fraxel Re:pair allows the physician to dial in settings that can increase the depth of treatment so different laser providers can give different results and the specific settings they use can contribute to a higher or lower risk for complications such as pigmentation concerns and scarring.

Difference in Portrait PSR Treatments and Settings?

I am thinking of having Portrait because I have a lot of sunspots on my face and wrinkles around my eyes. I have been reading about Portrait online, but am confused by the options of the settings of PSR1, 2, 3, and also have seen references to "joules". What is the difference between these settings, and how is the right setting determined? Do doctors use different settings for different areas?

A: Different settings are used based on severity of problems and patient tolerance

Different settings are determined by the amount of photoaging, skin color and your tolerance for down time and discomfort. Very mild settings such as Portrait Express does not require anesthetic whereas the PSR 3 usually involves medication to relax you and pain killers during the procedure with anesthetic cream. The down time ranges from none to 10 days depending on the energy settings.
