Can a collagen supplement actually reduce signs of aging? I came across Dr. Venessa's Collagen drink mix, and it just seems too good to be true.
Here are a few of the claims on the website:
- Boosts natural collagen.
-
Promotes cell renewal, for firmer, younger looking skin.
- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
-
Improves skin elasticity to restore a youthful appearance.
- Improves damaged skin: acne, dermatitis, psoriasis.
-
Promotes circulation to improve varicose veins and cellulite.
As skin specialists I'm hoping you can shine some light on to the possibility of this working?

If one is vitamin or nutrient-deficient, then taking supplements can help, but if one has the normal levels of essentials then the replacement won't usually make things better. As an example, protein deficiency can cause collagen depletion and this can be a very bad problem for the skin. Taking protein or collagen could then help. Vitamin C deficiency can ruin our collagen and taking this supplement can help correct scuvy, a disease that can affect well-appearing young Americans as I have published a case report many years ago. Taking vitamin C can help this condition. If you are without skin problems via a nutritional deficiency, I doubt taking a collagen drink will make your skin more youthful or appear different.
Interested in procedure. I live in the Maryland area.
I have been involved with Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) for treating all kinds of scars, wrinkles and crinkly, crepey skin for over ten years. I have also used it repgimenting scars and areas of vitilgo. Through the years, I have written a number of artilces and have answered many questions on the subject, which may be accessed elsewhere in RealSelf.com, as well as on my website YoungerLookingWithoutSurgery.com When researching the subject, in addition to collagen induction therapy, you may look under terms, such as medical microneedling, needle dermabrasion or microchanneling, a term I coined for this procedure.
I have had a bump from collagen for 2 years when will it Disappear? Can i do something to make it Disappear?
If your bump is from collagen injections, then you might have a cyst, or, the collagen had an additive as can be found in some products, more commonly found in countries other than the U.S. Some fillers are meant to be semi-permanent and can last for several years by adding other ingredients. The problem with the latter, is that if there is not a good result, or a complication, then it will last too long.
