Does the New Zoom WhiteSpeed Machine Still Use Gel, or is It Just the Light?

I have heard the new Zoom WhiteSpeed machine creates less sensitivity than the traditional Zoom machine. What I have read online says that "blue light emitting diodes" whiten the teeth.I thought light was used in the traditional machine too. Is a gel still applied to teeth, or is the whitening completely achieved by the lights?

A: New Zoom WhiteSpeed

Glad you asked. No, the procedure is the same and I feel the company is not being totally forthright.  I called the company and specifically asked "what's so great/new about this new light?"  I was told the main difference is that the WhiteSpeed lamp is an LED lamp compared to a UV lamp that last years model had.  The advantage to this is that the Dentist will likely get 50,00 hours of use vs 200 hours before we need to change the lamp inside the machine.  Not enough of a reason to change lamps in my opinion.

So to answer you question, the procedure is still the same for the patient.  The Dental office will place gel on your teeth in addition to the light for about 15 minutes per cycle for a total of 4 cycles.  Hope this clarifies things.  Good Luck!

Can Olive Oil, Eggs, Brown Rice, or Oatmeal Stain Teeth if Eaten the Same Day of Xoom Bleaching?

I just did Xoom bleaching but accidentally ate brown rice with olive oil, butter, oatmeal, butter, and eggs and wanted to know if they might have stained my teeth. They don't look as white as I'd liked them to be and I think they were whiter when I left the dentist's office.

A: Zoom Bleaching - what to avoid after treatment

Not likely!  Foods to avoid after Zoom! bleaching are ones that would stain a white tee-shirt.  (Red sauces, soy sauce, Balsamic vinegar, tobacco, coffee, tea, berries etc).  If you think you could get whiter, ask your Dentist to fabricate take home bleaching trays so that you can continue to bleach at home.  This way you are sure to get the results you want.

I have seen patients whose teeth fade slightly after bleaching (no matter how they bleached their teeth).  For those patients, I always stress the need to go a little whiter than they want their final color to be, as they will fade slightly over the first 24 hours.  This is rare, but maybe what happened to you.  Did you complete all 4 cycles during the Zoom?  I notice that it happens more to patients who halt the Zoom process early.   Good Luck.

Had Zoom Whitening: Is 2 Times Lighter Shade Achieved All That is Possible?

Paid £695 for Zoom Treatment result is two shades lighter only. I am having crown done and am worried about the matching shade will be poor after I use tray treatment given with zoom procedure?

A: Use your bleaching trays

Hold off on fabricating your new crown if possible.  Use your bleaching trays regularly for the next few weeks and you will likely be surprised by how much whiter your teeth will get.   Although I feel Zoom! is the best in office whitening on the market, it can be unpredictable.  In cases where the results aren't stunning, the best next choice is to use whitening trays for 2-4 weeks.  (sometimes for really stubborn teeth, longer)  Compliance is key. If you use them as indicated, you will certainly see great results.  Just remember to wait about 10-14 days once you finish bleaching so that your final color will be "set" and your new crown will match you new color.  Good luck and please use your trays, I think you will be happily surprised.
