Septoplasty Using Local Anesthesia Vs General Anesthesia?

I was scheduled to have Septoplasty surgery a few years ago and while undergoing the induction anesthesia I developed hypotension after I was given the Keflex and nasal lidocaine. I was in ICU for a few days and the surgery never took place. I am now having to revisit this again. I am scared out of my mind and would feel more comfortable with local anesthesia. Is there a less invasive way to have this procedure done?

A: Find out why

The first thing you and y our doctors need to do is find out why you became hypotensive. Are you allergic to Keflex or Lidocaine. Once the medical issues have been worked out then discuss it with your doctor. You will not be happy doing a septoplasty under local.

Insurance Coverage for Septoplasty

I'm 17, and my nose was broken when I got hit in the face several times during childhood. It resulted in deviation of septum, fractured nose, and breathing problems. I have Americhoice by United Healthcare Insurance without out of network benefits. Rhinoplasty wouldn't be covered, but what about the Septoplasty? Does anyone know a doctor who could perform both Rhinoplasty and have the Septoplasty covered?  In line with this, would it be a good idea to have two surgeons perform Rhinoplasty and Septoplasty (covered) separately, or just one ENT surgeon? Some mentioned it would be affordable.

A: Americhoice coverage for septoplasty You are correct that, while septoplasty be covered by insurance, the insurance company will not pay for rhinoplasty. Americhoice is a Medicaid derivative run by United Healthcare. It operates by different rules than other United products. You should consult the United web site, which is one of the better ones in the industry and to read the requirements for coverage of the septoplasty. You do not need two surgeons. Both ENT and plastic surgeons are trained to perform this operation. I disagree that the insurer is more likely to approve surgery not performed by a plastic surgeon. It has a checklist of prerequisites that the patient must meet, including non-surgical management of difficulty breathing, in order for approval to be forthcoming.

Nose Straightening During Septoplasty?

Can any slight nose-straightening be done during Septoplasty, or is that strictly Rhinoplasty?

A: Septoplasty and rhinoplasty can be performed in the same procedure While septoplasty can improve breathing, to change the shape of the nose, a rhinoplasty would be necessary. Although insurance companies with cover septoplasty or sub mucous resection, rhinoplasty is strictly cosmetic.
