Can Otoplasty Be Performed on a 10-Year-Old Child?

my ten year old child's ears stick out, and i was just wondering if otoplasty can be performed on her at his age?

A: Otoplasty for children Otoplasty can be performed after age three, when the ears have reached 85 percent of the adult size. It is appropriate in a ten year old unless the child isn't psychologically ready to undergo an operation. I like to operate during transition points, ie, between elementary and junior high school, or preschool and kindergarten, where children will be exposed to new friends and situations as they will feel more confident and less subject to taunting with more normal appearing ears.

Can Ear Surgeries Be Revised?

I had my ears pinned. The ears are not pinned the same amount, and one is pinned back too far. Is this a procedure that can be "reversed" at least a bit?

Michael

A: Revision otoplasty An otoplasty can be revised to correct asymmetry or under correction but it is advisable to wait for the residual swellng to go down before anticipating the need for such surgery. A revision can be performed under local anesthesia in the office.
