Do certain areas of the face respond better to Dysport because of differences in the concentration of Dysport compared to Botox?
The chemical structure of the two products are similar but not completely identical hence the number of units of one product are not completely equivalent on a unit to unit basis. This however does not prevent one from adjusting the number of units to achieve identical results. For the most part one can multiply the number of Botox units by three to determine the equivalent Dysport dose. There is no difference in effect between the two products once one has made this adjustment.
I'm assuming that botox work better on deep deep forehead wrinkles, is this true? Why?
Chemically the two products are similar but not identical. Therapeutically the difference is that one unit of Botox is not equivalent to Dysport. However as long as one adjusts a conversion factor one can switch from one product to the next. The makers of Dysport claim that there product has a faster onset of action compared to Botox although I am not convinced that I have seen a clinically significant difference. Finally, for the patient there is no detectable difference in efficacy or duration that I have seen.
How does the area of application influence a choice of dysport over botox?)
Botox and Dysport are not chemically identical but in reality they have very similar efficacy. One is not felt to work better for particular patients or particular wrinkles. I have not found any difference in efficacy. At times I will have patients report a preference for one versus the other but there are so many variables from one treatment to another that I do not feel that one is superior to the other.
