Are there any disadvantages in that type of a crown?
All dental treatments have advantages and disadvantages. The part that makes a Dentist a professional is our ability to take into account the many unique factors in your mouth. Specifically the disadvantages to one visit porcelain crowns are:
- Is this the best material for this tooth, in this location and your treatment goals?
- Are you bleeding excessively, in which case, cementing a crown on the same day may not be possible.
- If your tooth may need a root canal, but the Dentist is not sure (in cases where you had a deep cavity or previous crown), placing a temporary crown might be a better option in order to evaluate the tooth, prior to cementation.
- These types of crowns have been used for 25 years, which in Dentistry is not particularly long.
I use the Cerec in office system in my office, and it's a great tool to have. But like everything in life, just because you have this fabulous new technology, it must be tailored to your mouth and your treatment goals.
I Put on Crown Just Because I Had Uneven Teeth but It Didnt Work at All They Look Same, what can I do?
The question isn't whether the tooth in question was uneven, but how much it differed from the surrounding teeth? Often, to achieve excellent results, study models and photos must be taken to evaluate the smile. To design a beautiful, healthy smile, one must consider "golden proportion" which allows for the harmonious blending of materials utilizing composite, veneers or crown restorations.
What kind of numbing agents are offered when Cerec crowns are fitted? Do patients ever need anything more than tylenol afterwards?
Often times your doctor will administer regular 'Novocain' for the crown insertion appointment. This will vary, sometimes no anesthesia is needed.
After the crown insertion, some patients might want to take Tylenol or Advil, but it also varies. Most patients will not need any post insertion pain medication.
Hope this helps.
