I've had CO2 laser in 2001. My results from the first laser were good, other than a line of demarcation around the edge of my face. It was a really terrible experience to go through. Is Deep FX/Active FX easy in comparison?
Active Fx and Deep Fx are fractional ablative CO2 lasers. The fractional nature means that microislands of skin are left untreated to heal the treated areas faster. The healing time and the duration of redness is much less than with older CO2 lasers. The recovery time depends on a number of variables including how much of the active and deep and what particular settings you're being treated with. 5 days is the quickest time to make up with the longest time being 10 days.
I am having deep FX followed by Active FX to my face and neck by the esthetician. How much pain will I have during and after? Is this safe to have done by the nurse esthetician?
Patients generally experience a burning sensation in the area treated with the laser for 1 to 2 hours which feels somewhat like a sunburn. This can be soothed with ice. Following this period there is little to no pain. The active and deep FX are ablative fractional lasers which should only be used by a qualified physician with knowledge of lasers.
I am scheduled for the ActiveFX this Tuesday. I am 50 years old and looking to smooth fine lines around my eyes and mouth area.
I plan on taking 6 days off from work to recover. Realistically, is this enough time to recover? I really do not want anyone to know I had this procedure done. Please advise. Thank you.
Depending on how aggessive the Active FX settings are and how many passes are done, treatment of the face usually heals by day 5-7. Once the skin heals, you can start wearing makeup. Your face, however, will be pink. It typically takes 1-2 months for this redness to fade. The fairer you are, the longer it takes. I think your family and friends will know you had something done - but it's worth it because you want the results to be natural and noticeable.
