Radiesse Nodule Under Eyes

I had Radiesse injected under my eyes 8 1/2 months ago. (Biggest mistake of my life!!!!!!) One eye continues to have a large nodule (pea-sized, tear drop shaped) that does not seem to be going away. I have had a series of steroid injections, but the nodule remains almost the same size. Will the nodule eventually go away on its own? If so, when? Should it be getting gradually smaller each month? (it's not!) At what point should I consider surgical intervention? Please Help!!

A: Radiesse should be avoided in the lower eyelid thin skin

The nodules of RAdiesse may be present for as much as two years. Expect reduction in size with time.  Surgical removal could be traumatic and leave indentations especially as more collagen is produced as a response to the filler being present. Some might say to remove the product sooner to decrease the trauma of removal and others may say that there won't be much change between 9 months and two years in the ease of removal.

Can Anyone Help my Radiesse Cheek Removal After Two Years?

I am a male and had radiesse in my cheeks over two years ago and it has ruined my smile. I originally went in for my nasal folds (?) and my doctor talked me into a little in my cheeks. My cheeks are now blocky and just doesn't look good. Is there any advice on how to remove or surgery action to take that will reshape them?

A: Radiesse is not permanent

Radiesse is not considered a semi-permanent or permanent filler. Although the filler initially was mentioned by the company when first marketed as a filler with 2 years or more duration, clinically, most doctors observe its duration to be about a year, and some less, and some more.  You may obtain a worse result by having doctors trying to inject something to lessen the filler (there is no "antidote") or to surgically remove the filler. There should be no reason, unless the filler was something other than Radiesse,

Is there a connection between Radiesse and Shingles?

I developed  shingles about a week after an injection of Radiesse.  Is there any connection between developing shingles ( Herpes zoster with postherpetic neuraligia) on my arm and back and an injection of Radiesse on my face?

A: Radiesse does not cause shingles

There is no direct cause for shingles from an injection of  radiesse on the face. Shingles can only occur if you had been exposed to chicken pox virus years ago and the virus then remains dormant along the roots of the nerves from peripheral nervous system along the spine, whether head or back.  The virus wakes up or is reactivated for different reasons and then spreads along the nerve pathway from the spine to the skin area that it supplies for sensation. The rash then can be seen a couple of days after the pain starts.  A few reasons for reactivation is a general decrease in your immune system. The immune system keeps the virus in check, but if you are seriously ill, very fatigued, take immunosuppressive medication, have an immunosuppressive infectious disease, very stressed emotionally, the immune system is compromised and the reactivation can develop.

The develoment of shingles should be a mere coincidence and not a result of the Radiesse injections.
