Doctor Recommendations for CoolSculpting

Do You Perform Zeltiq CoolSculpting or Would You Recommend Doctors Who Do?  Thanks.

A: I wholeheartedly recommend CoolSculpting by Zeltiq as do many doctors

The principle of 20 % reduction of fat volume via Zeltiq's CoolSculpting is because the fat cells are actually killed by the freezing, unlike other treatments that offer fat reduction by temporarily releasing triglycerides from the fat cells without killing the cells. I am not aware of these devices having been tested side-by-side but theoretically only the Zeltiq will provide long term fat reduction. The fat volume can be reduced further by performing successive treatments every couple of months for a few sessions.

Zeltiq - I Had my Hips Done. On 1st Side Muscle Was Frozen and Still Hurts Alot - 4 Mos. Ago

Operator was very young and inexperienced. She had me lie down and as a result, muscle, instead of the fat on the side of my hips, was frozen. Sometimes the pain is still very severe. Will this heal? What is the treatment?

A: CoolSculpting and pain

It is very rare to have long term pain after CoolSculpting. With time, your pain could very well improve. Ask the doctor whose practice it is to evaluate your condition and see if a medication may help improve your healing and whether a physical therapist might be able to soothe the area with ultrasound and/or electrical stimulation (e-stim).

What Would the Effects Be for a Person Who Had Raynauds?

Hi that is what I would like to know. I have Raynauds which can make me cold already. Is it alright to do this procedure because it is cold?

A: CoolSculpting and Raynauds

At this time, Zeltiq indicates that a history of Raynaud's could be a contraindication to having CoolSculpting. Realize that patients with Raynaud's were not tested in the FDA trials but when a company makes an application to the FDA for clearance of a device, they propose theoretically those conditions in which there may be a problem.  Since Raynads involves circulation problems of the fingers and toes with cold temperatures there may be a problem. However, there is no evidence that cooling the abdomen will cool the circulation of the fingers and toes.  There may be people who have Raynauds that also have other connective tissue diseases such as dermatomyositis or scleroderma and possibly those conditions could present problems.  Other diseases such as cryoglobulinemia and cold urticaria may prevent patients from having CoolSculpting.
