Is the Orbicularis Oculi Muscle Ever Frozen with Botox Injections?

I read the paragraph below on an Oprah.com article, and was wondering if this muscle is commonly or ever frozen by botox injections? "When someone smiles out of genuine delight, a facial muscle called the orbicularis oculi involuntarily contracts, crinkling the skin around the eyes. Most of us are incapable of deliberately moving this muscle, which means that when a person fakes a smile, her orbicularis oculi likely won't budge."

A: Botox treatment of the muscles around the eyes

The orbicularis muscle is treated when we treat the crow's feet with Botox and when one attempts to get a slight lift of the brow.  I think Dr Smith said it well,  our goal is not to freeze the muscle but to relax the muscle to achieve a more relaxed look.

Can Botox Injections Leave Residue on Skin? Is This Risky?

Can Botox injections leave residue on skin, and can this be ingested accidentally (ie hands or showering)? How many units of Botox ingested are toxic?

A: Botox does not leave a residue

There is no residue from Botox injections.  Medical grade botox, used in appropriate amounts, does not produce toxicity.  If you are implying that someone might "ingest" or eat Botox, that would be completely inappropriate.

Does It Take Months for Botox to Correct the Brow Furrow?

I received my first treatment of Botox 6 weeks ago. The doctor said that I only needed 16 units as my brow furrow wasn't that bad. After 2 weeks I still had alot of movement and the crease was still there. Today is 6 weeks since my first treatment and I have been back twice since my first treatment because I still have a crese! She told me today that it could take months for the crease to slowly fill back in! She is'nt charging me but I am wondering if I am wasting my time with weak Botox.

A: Botox to fill in crease Botox typically works within 72 hours. If injected properly, your brow should not be frozen because that's completely unnatural. Botox does not fill in creases; it works by paralyzing the muscle. It is possible that what you need is a combination of Botox and a facial filler such as Radiesse or Restylane. It's impossible to evaluate whether the Botox is "weak" or over diluted or whether it is not the treatment of choice for your condition. I would recommend that you see a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon in consultation.
