I had closed rhinoplasty 6 months ago to remove a dorsal hump (see photo) by rasping top and sides. I'm very unhappy with the results so far as my dorsal hump is still showing. What kind of changes should I still expect? Am I stuck with this hump or will it absorb? Also does the area above the tip still look swollen? I would appreciate any advice, as I'm very depressed about my surgery results. My surgeons knows my concerns but he's just protecting his work. I'd like another opinion please.
At 6 months, your results from a closed rhinoplasty are pretty stable. Based on your photos, revision certainly seems necessary to improve the result and address your concerns.
In a secondary case I would do it in an open fashion with a general take down of the dorsum, particularly to deal with the step off at the proximal third of the dorsum. The tip needs to be elevated slightly to improve the angel between your lip and columella and also you need a better transition to the tip to remove the poly-beak appearance.
This could be done at any time and should result in significant improvement. Good luck and thanks for sharing.
Hi! I live in US but in two weeks I'm going to India to get a rhinoplasty done. I'm scared to death! And not about pain but about the result. My nose is not super ugly and I'm afraid it might become worse after the surgery.
Everyone is trying to convince me not to go to India for that. But it's way cheaper and I heard medicine and doctors are pretty advanced there. How do you think is it safe enough to go there? Doctor's resume seems pretty good
I am certain that there are excellent plastic surgeons in India and that one could have a good rhinoplasty done there. I think that the bigger issue is your followup care. What happens if you have a complication or need a second operation down the road? I strongly advise against making decisions regarding surgery based on price alone.
I don't have a straight profile and I'd like to finally take care of it. My nose is elegant from the front - thin nostrils and it's probably just the right length for my face. Can one remove the 'bump' but keep the rest of the nose - & is it okay at this age to do so? Thanks.
Although most rhinoplasty procedures are performed when the individual is younger (re: late teens through early 30s), you can certainly have the operation later in life. My primary concern when performing rhinoplasty on older individuals is that they have become used to a particular appearance as a result of having lived with it for so many years. It isn't uncommon for the results to seem rather dramatic at first given that even a very slight correction can appear rather significant when it comes to the nose. That said, your desire to have the nose remain essentially the same, but have the dorsal bump removed is perfectly reasonable, particularly since it sounds like you have thought about this for many years. Just express your desires and concerns to your surgeon and I am sure you will be more than pleased with the final outcome.
Good luck!
