It's been eight days, and although I see a 20% improvement, I can still squint, forming those 11s between my brows. She did two shots in that area, then one each over the arch and three on each crow's feet area on the sides of my eyes. Do I need to wait a bit longer, go back for more injections or accept that this is probably the way my body reacts? I paid by the area treated, not by the units, so I don't have any idea if she would retreat free of charge.
it can take up to 10 days or so, but if you have a question about your result, then you should revisit the doctor to see if result could be improved.
I have had Botox for a few years and love it. I have changed my location. I have a new person doing Botox, my problem is I have always maintained 22-24 units that has been perfect and on one occasion 28 units. Which was great as well. My problem is this, my new person that is doing Botox has guessed 39 units I was shocked, I told her no.
In general, for a younger person whose crow’s feet are not present at rest, but only appear with animation, then 6-8 units per side is generally an adequate dose. As we age, the crow’s feet become more prominent and may be present in repose. In these cases, a slightly larger dose may be warranted (i.e. 10-14 units per side particularly when the lines move laterally towards the malar area).
There's no harm in using a smaller dose, since one can always wait a few weeks and do a small touch up injection if needed. For returning botox patients, my approach is always to ask them if they were satisfied with the results of their previous injection and adjust accordingly.
Given your concerns over the number of units recommended by your latest injector, you may want to find someone who is more in line with what your previous doctor used since that is what you felt worked best.
How long does Botox last? What determines how long it will work for me?
In most patients, Botox lasts about 3-4 months. That said, there are several factors which will contribute to its effectiveness and longevity over time.
Chief among them is the skill and accuracy of the injector - which is why I personally perform all Botox injections on my patients.
I do agree with my colleagues that repeated/consistent injections often results in the Botox lasting longer and a gradual diminution of the wrinkles being targeted.
There are, of course, exceptions to the rule. For men with facial muscles that are strong and active, a greater-than-normal dosage is often required to achieve a suitable result. The effects of Botox also tend to fade away faster in women who frequently exercise.
