I am 5 weeks post tummy tuck. My upper abs are very flat but right below my incision is extremely distended . It's as though I have a donut around my belly. My PS says this is where the swelling naturally travels but I keep wondering if it is a seroma. I cannot find pictures of a seroma on the web. the area is even all the way around . I cannot fit into my old clothes and am worried. Please help.
It is possible, but less likely at 5 to 6 weeks after surgery. Positioning , garment use, and activity levels all can affect the swelling -and therefore early appearance of your abdomen at this time frame. I f you see a "wave' under the swollen area when you push on the skin- then it may be a seroma. Best to follow up with your surgeon.
I am 8 weeks post tummy tuck. For the past week I have been on a business trip to the mountains. I have not been active. Basically sitting in meetings all day long. I have noticed that my abdomen has become quite swollen. I have been wearing compression throughout my trip with the exception of a couple of nights while I slept. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, but wondered if altitude could cause swelling to be worse. Thank you.
I practice plastic surgery in Albuquerque, NM, at one mile above sea level. My patients do not appear to have more swelling than when I was practicing in Pennsylvania. There is no physiological reason that it should happen.
Lower abdominal swelling at eight nweeks post op is not uncommon. If it is not very swollen in the morning but gets worse as the day goes on, you have little to worry about. If you are constantly swollen, you should discuss this with your doctor.
Good luck.
general with multiple procedures combined -vs- regional one procedure less blood loss especially as you cauterize as you go with tummy tuck and muscle tighting(regional does go deep enough for muscle tighting). how is general safer with multiple procedures(mommymake over)than using regional for one procedure (tummy tuck)? the advances that have been made in medicine over the yrs your telling me it cant be done and be done safely and accuratly???
Although the two techniques are different, one is hard pressed to demonstrate any difference in safety between them. It usually comes down to the surgeon and anesthia provider preference, as most patients follow the recommendations of their physician.
Probably the biggest draw back of regional anesthesia if the inability (relatively speaking) to anesthetize the chest/breast. It makes a 'mommy make-over more difficult.
