Is It Safe and Common to Use Silikon 1000 As a Filler for the Nose? (photo)

Hello there. I have a consultation with my surgeon this Thursday for rhinoplasty. I've been told before that I have a low radix and and a minor hump. I've been researching Silikon 1000 as a nose filler, and it seems it has mixed results. I know it's not FDA approved, but can I still bring it up to my surgeon ? Or will he be rather appalled ? It seems like its not really a common thing here in the Chicago area. I think I'm a pretty good candidate .. but take a look for yourself. Thanks !

A: Silikon-1000 may be safely used by experienced physicians for natural-looking, permanent nasal bridge augmentation.

I read your concerns and reviewed your photo:

You're a borderline candidate for straightening your nasal bridge with Silikon-1000, an off-label filler for permanent results. The upper bridge, or radix area, has loosely attached skin as compared to your lower bridge. And you have a fairly deep depression above your small bump which typically necessitates several treatments.

You might require 3-4 silicone treatments to achieve a desired result, since the radix area is the most difficult to obtain instant-correction.

You may want to request computer-imaging to get an idea of what to expect with your radix raised with silicone injections: you could also see what you would look like with the bump removed following well-performed rhinoplasty surgery. This would be the be helpful in your decision making process.

I've attached a link to a photo demonstrating a similar result in one of my gracious patients. Her bump is smaller than yours and her result was achieved after 3 treatments.

I hope this is helpful for you.

Why Do Some Surgeons Use Silikon Fillers for Nose Depressions/indentations Even Though It's Not FDA Approved?

Some surgeons are strictly against using silikon 1000 injections to treat small nasal depressions/indentations while other surgeons recommend them. I am very confused. Whom do I trust or believe my nose with? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards.

A: Silikon-1000 may be safely used by experienced physicians for permanent improvement of nasal indentations. Video attached.

A Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) involves using Injectable Fillers to improve your appearance. You can have Silikon-1000 for permanent results (my personal preference), but Radiesse, Juvederm, and Restylane are used by many physicians. The choice of filler depends on the preference, and experience of your physician. I have been using Silikon-1000 in the nose for over 11 years and have had wonderful success, and many happy patients.

The most commonly performed Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty procedure will camuoflage a small nose-bump. For example, you may have a bump on your profile view. Filling above and below the bump will improve your profile so it’s straight and less distracting. If your nose has a profile-bump but is too large, then a Surgical Rhinoplasty would likely be the best way to proceed. Injectable Fillers will never make a large nose smaller.

A crooked nasal appearance can also be corrected with a Non-Surgical Nose Job. A concavity on your front view may cause your nose to appear twisted. Filling the concave area can lead to a straighter, more pleasing appearance that won't call attention to itself.

Visible imperfections after a previous Nose Job may be dramatically improved with a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty. Minimizing the appearance of Rhinoplasty irregularities without additional surgery and downtime is one of the most rewarding procedures for my patients and me. Imperfections in your bridge, tip, and nostrils are often dramatically improved during an office visit, typically with no downtime. Visible, asymmetric tip cartilage that may become bothersome after Rhinoplasty can be camouflaged with Silikon-1000. A pinched tip can be widened, and high nostrils can be lowered. A wide bridge can also be narrowed provided it's not too high. All while avoiding Revision Rhinoplasty Surgery which is inconvenient, costly, and often unnecessary.

Your Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty is performed painlessly with topical anesthetic. You have no downtime, and normal activities are resumed immediately after this 20-minute procedure. If you’re an appropriate candidate for Silikon-1000, results are completely natural and permanent.

You may need Rhinoplasty Surgery if your airway and septum require correction. You may also require Rhinoplasty Surgery to make your large nose smaller since adding volume will only make things larger.

When considering a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty procedure, the experience of your physician is critical. The injections must be carefully placed at the correct depth. Even temporary fillers like Radiesse, Juvederm and Restylane last well over a year in your nose, and temporary fillers like these may lead to problems if they're not used properly. I almost exclusively use Silikon-1000 for Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty procedures, and several treatments are typically necessary to achieve complete correction of most conditions. In my practice, patient satisfaction is very high.

I hope this is helpful for you.

Why is There So Much Controversy over Silikon 1000 for Lips?

I am interested in permanent fillers but find many doctors warn against it because of migration or other potential risks. There are a couple of doctors here from up north who have outstanding outcomes so is it a matter of experience? How does one weigh the pros and cons?

A: Silikon-1000 may be safely used by experienced physicians for natural-looking, permanent lip augmentation.

Silikon-1000 is a permanent, off-label filler, so your results, good or bad, are permanent. My experience with Silikon-1000 for permanent, natural-looking lip augmentation has been excellent. Several treatments (1-3) are typically necessary to obtain a desired result, and in my practice, problems are infrequent. Tell your doctor if you have a history of frequent cold-sores or herpes-infections on your lips: you may need to be pre-treated with valcyclovir (Valtrex).

You must find a reputable dermatologist or facial plastic surgeon experienced with the serial puncture, micro-droplet technique. You should also have a discussion with your doctor about the FDA's position with respect to using Silikon-1000 in an off-label fashion to enhance your lips. Lastly, you should see many before and after photos demonstrating beautiful results before you pick your doctor and proceed.

In my practice, Silikon-1000 is safe for permanent Lip Augmentation, and leads to completely natural-looking, smooth lips. In just about everyone, patient satisfaction is very high.

I've attached a link to an interview I did for the Lip Augmentation Forum here at RealSelf. During this interview, much of the controversy about silicone lip injections is addressed.

I hope this is helpful for you.
