My tear test was 4mm. I have some puffiness in the lower lids and some excess skin in the upper lids. I take antihistamines (Benadryl) regularly, could this cause my dry eyes? If I stop taking Benadryl would my eyes become less dry? I use antihistamine eye drops daily but I don't use drops for dry eyes. Under what circumstances could I have upper and lower eyelid surgery? What questions should I ask a plastic surgeon about my eyes? Does season matter (no winter surgery?)
I read your concerns. Your eyelids function is to lubricate your eyes. Sometimes the lubricating function of your eyelids may become compromised after eyelid surgery. You should bring this concern to the attention of your surgeon. If your ophthalmologist confirmed your condition, you could ask if you're at high risk for experiencing an exacerbation of dry-eye. Or you could consider consulting an oculoplastic surgeon for an opinion.
Hope this helps.

Hi, I've started noticing my ptosis at the age of 6. Actually my parents friends started noticing, we didnt. And now at the age of 32 I decided to fix it. The doctor has told me that it is congenital and he will tighten the tendon and also remove a bit of eye lid skin. I just had my eye lid ptosis surgery 1week ago. The swelling and bruising went down and tomorrow I am removing my stiches.I am not seeing even slight improvement and am quite upset about it. Should i hope for any improvement
Any eyelid swelling tends to push the eyelid down, so the eyelid still can come up over the next few weeks as the healing progresses, but you may need a revision if it is too low after 6 months or so. Oculoplastic surgeons generally have the most experience with repairing ptosis, but unfortunately ptosis repair sometimes does not work as expected and needs to be repeated.
I've had an upper eyelid surgery done 6 weeks ago. My scar is healing great however there is one question that I have. When the scar flattens will it just settle into the crease and not lay more on top of the eyelid? I like how my eyelid is looking right now. Also, on my right eye at the end of the scar line it looks slightly dogeared. My surgeon said she'll fix it at the 6mos mark if it hasn't flattened...how is that usually corrected?
You do need more time for the scars to mature. I think you will have an excellent result. Wait for the six months and I suspect everything will look fine.
