Which Is Better For Tummy Tuck Scars, U-shaped or W-shaped?

I am having a Tummy Tuck and noticed in my research that there appear to be two slightly different types of scars: one that is U-shaped, like a smile running from hip-to-hip reaching a low point at the pubis, and one that is more of a W-shape, like the other but rising slightly at the pubis. Is there a difference in the procedure, healing or outcome/final result between these two types of scars? Is one better or easier to perform...? Just curious. Thanks!

A: Tummy tuck scars

I usually use a "U" shaped scar. However I also recommend and have my patients bring to the day of surgery the smallest bottom they would ever wear "in public". Usually a bikini bottom. In this way I can try to plan my final scar around this bottom. No Promises because as you heal the scar will shift and settle. I always plan lower than higher. If you already have a "C" section scar your surgeon may plan around this scar.

5 Months After my Tummy Tuck with Lipo, and Looks Like I'm 3 Months Pregnant Sometimes

I feel like I am 3 months pregnant woman sometimes; when I have my stomach suck in is fine but when I don't this is how I look I include some pictures, Just wondering is normal at this point. Thank you!

A: Abdominoplasty "Tummu Tuck" 5 months post op

Would need to see your pre-op photos and completely examine your abdomen.  It appears as if the abdominal fascia was not tightened enough or not tightened at all, or fail and broke open.  The abdominal scar is nice and low and healing well.  You need to have your surgeon evaluate your abdominal wall fascia.

How Does a Doctor Decide if You Need a Tummy Tuck or Mini?

I've had two pregnancies which have left my lower abdomen all the way up to my navel with stretch marks and loose skin. I also have scaring on my navel from a piercing and laparoscopic surgery. I am fit and active, I have flat abs but I have a lot of excess skin which is noticeable when I bend over and when I lay on my side (like an empty pouch/deflated balloon) I am planning on having surgery in early 2012 and I guess my question is would I need a tummy tuck or mini tummy?

A: Full vs Mini Tummy Tuck

First: most patients wished that their abdomen looked liked yours without having surgery. Saying that your surgeon will need to examine you to determine if your have laxity or looseness of your abdominal muscles below the umbilicus only or above and below the umbilicus. If your need your muscles tightened above the umbilicus then you need a full abdominopoasty. If you only need tightening below the umbilicus then you might only need a mini or lower abdonimplasty. Concerning stretch marks, it depends on where they are located on the abdomen. If the stretch marks are located above the umbilicus it is difficult to surgically remove these stretch marks. If the stretch marks are below the umbilicus then their the possibility of surgically removing these stretch marks with a full abdominopoasty. A lower or mini or lower abdominopoasty may improve the appearance of lower stretch marks however may not be able to "remove" them. I hops that this information is helpful.
