Is stitchless blepharoplasty a viable procedure? What special precautions should be taken during the healing process?
The eyelid skin is very thin and if the edges are well approximated then the wound will heal well. The lower eyelids will heal easier than the upper without sutures. As there is swelling after the surgery, if the upper eyelids are not closed with sutures the edges may break apart.
I have asymmetrical eyes, one is noticeably higher than the other. About four years ago the eyelid above my higher eye began having difficulties that still persist. Sometimes when I wake up in the morning or after a long day I have trouble opening my eye and my eyelid feels extremely heavy. Is this ptosis or is this caused by my eye being higher? Or is my eye asymmetry caused by the ptosis? Can any of this be fixed? I'm extremely insecure about it and my self esteem is pretty much shot :/
Additional history exam and photographs are necessary. Saying that there is a great deal of difference between eyelid ptosis (drooping eyelid position) vs dystopia (ocular globe position within the orbit). Are you a male or female and what age? There are several diseases which cause progressive changes in the eyelids and ocular globe position which need to be ruled out. Seek a consultation with a surgeon who specializes in both eyelid and orbital surgery.
Is this a normal post-op problem and will it improve with time? In person, my eyes look fine (with the exception of upper lid post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation of one eye). At my follow-up visit, my surgeon said I am healing well and everything looks great. I am hoping I did not trade under eye baggage for under eye circles....
From your responses you can tell that there are two issues involved. Dark circles or hyper pigmentation of the skin is common after eyelid surgery. This can be due to pigmentation from prior blood after your surgery. There is also a shadowing effect of the skin due to the change in the contour after your surgery. It is still too early to make any final decisions on the ultimate results of your surgery however if after 6 months you still have concerns then this issue needs to be addressed. The key point is to keep an open dialogue with your plastic surgeon and let them know how you feel and what bothers you.
