I've been considering rhinoplasty for many years to refine my bulbous tip and asymmetrical nostrils. I hope to start consulting various doctors after the new year, but would like to be as prepared as possible. What are your suggestions in refining the tip, and creating a more narrow (yet natural) appearance? Thank you in advance! I appreciate your advice!
Seeing your pictures is helpful but in order to give you the most accurate opinion a complete examination including the airway is necessary. Refining the tip and narrowing the nose can achieve the appearance you are looking for but one needs to be careful not to narrow the airway to much. A cosmetic improvement that leaves you with a functional problem would not make you a happy patient. Good luck
It's been 3 months since my (tip deprojection) rhinoplasty and my nose is bulbous as compared to before rhinoplasty. I also appear to have some retracted nostrils. Attached are some before and after images. Would you agree that the nose is bulbous and the nostril is retracted? How much of this would be due to swelling as it's been 3 months already and how much due to bad nose surgery. I was under the impression from reading other posts that 80% of the swelling dissapates within 3 months.
I tell this to ALL my rhinoplasty patients and you will hear it from almost ALL plastic surgeons: Do not look at your nose for the first 8 months after your surgery. It will take that long to get a sense as to how it will ultimately appear, and it will take 12-18 months to fully heal. Take comfort in the fact that nothing can be done about it right now - just be patient.
I underwent a septo/rhino and had a bone spur removed off of the bridge of my nose. My doctor said that he used my own cartilage to push up the tip, supposedly to make it appear smaller. It appears unbalanced with the rest of my face now. Is it still too early for me to be worrying about having to get a revision done? If it's not related to swelling, what kind of tecniques can be used to make the tip appear balanced with the rest of my nose/face?
The best advice I can give anyone 2 weeks after a rhinoplasty is to stop looking at the mirror and forget about it for about 3 months. Your nose is going to go through MANY changes in the early postoperative phase. Take comfort in 2 things: 1: Anything that may need to be done/revised would not take place for a MINIMUM of 8-12 months after your surgery, and 2: There's nothing that you can do about it right now. So don't drive yourself crazy.
