When I was about two years old I accidentally fell back on a large cooking pot that had very hot water, I burn my whole back. Now I'm seveteen and I was wondering if there was any treatment that could removed the scars. Can treatments like Fraxel Laser remove these old burn scars, that are about 14 years old? The scars are very deep.
Burn scars can be softened up and improved with the FX laser (fractionated CO2 laser). The scars will always be there but the skin can feel looser. Around the face and neck patients are able to turn their heads better. For discoloration in burns a different laser is used to get out the excess pigmentation. Good luck.
Is there a surgical procedure that will reduce the appearance of incision scars following lip augmentation surgery?
A photo of the scars would be helpful. However, what to do about the scars depends on what type of scars they are. If the scar is raised, red or hard, such as a keloid or hypertrophic scar, you may need Kenalog injections to flatten it.
If it is just redness but the scar is a fine small line, the redness will most likely fade with time. It takes up to a year for the scar to mature to its final state.
Also, it would be important to know what type of material was used for lip augmentation. Was it a filler or a synthetic material?
If the scars are irregular or wide, they may be modifiable by scar revision surgery. Please consult a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon with training and experience in scar revision.
A year ago my baby at 8 months got a puncture on his cheek. I tried to get a plastic surgeon but the hospital would not call one. I let the er doc glue the puncture but I feel he did not close it properly. The scar is 4 months old, still very pink and looks wide. I have been doing massage, applying sunscreen every day, and applying silicon gel every night. He is almost a year. At what age is a revision possible? I do not want to make it worse but read it will widen even more as he grows.
Several considerations here before determining the age at which to do scar revision:
- A scar continues healing for a year after trauma or surgery, so if the scar is improving it may be worth waiting to see the end result.
- Doing a scar revision at a young age usually requires putting a child under general anesthesia as it is impossible to do the surgery on the face with the baby awake. It would cause a great deal of anxiety as the child has to be kept absolutely still, so it is not done.
- Children's skin heals remarkably well and while it's true that sometimes the scar widens as it heals during baby's growth, most of the time scars tend to heal better on a baby than on an adult.
Unless the scar is definitely changing for the worse, I would wait until the child is older and is able to tolerate the procedure better. However, what you can do in the meantime is consult a board-certified plastic surgeon regarding the scar revision.
