I have heard of "tip rhinoplasty" but don't know what it is. How is this different from other rhinoplasties?
Rhinplasty involves two distinct parts one of them and probably the most challenging one is the reshaping of the tip called, tip rhinoplasty. Therefore it is not a different rhinoplasty, but it’s part of the procedure. There are patients who do not require ant change in their tip shape. In those patients a tip rhinoplasty is not necessary. These patients will have the best and the most natural results in the long run.
Today a tip rhinoplasty is normally done with an open approach which requires an incision across the columella, the part between the nostrils. The skin is lifted to show the cartilages and they are reshaped by sutures, resection and grafts.
Hi, I had my surgery 10 weeks ago to correct breathing problems, plus lift a droopy tip and shave the slight bump. However I have noticed that my tip is still droopy!!! Do you know if it will lift with time or will I need a revision?
There are several causes for a droopy tip but the most commun is weekness of the cartilages beween the nostrils. To correct that, a cartilage graft called columellar strut is needed. Find out if you had that procedure during your rhinoplasty. A droopy tip doesn't normally correct itself. You may need to talk to your surgeon or get another opinon.
I need some help to make up my mind, if I should have my surgery done in Costa Rica!! is it save? should I put my life in their doctors hand? Please Advise
Just think of it, the only advantage of going to Costa Rica for your surgery is a possible cost saving. But remember one of the most important part of any plastic surgery is the follow up. This is specially true for rhinoplasty where the final result is not evident before a year. Who would you go to if there is a problem. The other issue is any potential complication, for example eyelid retraction after eyelid surgery. Who would take care of it. The third issue is that the regulations in foreign countries are looser than in the US. For example a French company who sold hundreds of thousands of silicone breast implants to the entire world including South and Central America was recently shot down when they found they were using industrial grade silicone which is not for medical use.
Cosmetic surgery is not like a product you buy and you throw away if it's no good. You want to do it once and do it right. In the long run it's cheaper that way and a lot safer. Find the best surgeon you can find to increase your odds for a successful outcome.
