Surgery to Remove Extra Nipples?

I have two extra nipples. I have had them since I was born and I hate them. I can wear swimsuits with nice tops because they show they are right below my original ones.

I'm now 17 and want to remove them. Are there home remedies? I heard wart remover works? And if not, I have insurance. Will it cover it and will it hurt? Thanks so much.

A: Extra nipples are common

Extra nipples are actually quite common in men and women.  They result from in utero development.  They are easily removed under a local anesthesia  and leave a small almost imperceptable scar.   Insurance coverage varies from person to person, and the specific terms of your policy would need to be investigated to determine whether the procedure would be covered.

Decrease the Size of Areola Without Mastopexy?

I am 21 years old, 135lbs, no pregnancies. I am very unhappy with the look and shape of my areolas. I want a smaller more youthful look, but would rather wait to get a mastopexy later, after pregnancy. Am I a good candidate for a nipple surgery procedure?

A: Is a mastopexy needed here.

This photgragh demonstrates enlarged areola and breast asymmetry .    Pregnancy does not always cause ptosis(droop) and you may never require a full  mastopexy.  Breast asymmetry  may also be contributing to your dissatisfaction with your areolar size and position.  The size of the areola can be adjusted with a permanent pursestring suture, however you may wish to address the other aspects of  asymmetry  as well. This should be throughly reviewed with your plastic surgeon.

Is Areola Reduction Quick and Inexpensive?

is it fairly quick and inexpensive to have an areola reduction? and is it ok to do before getting pregnant again? or should it be done after im all done with having kids?

A: We should look at the cause of the enlarged areola before attempting to correct them.

Enlarged areola have different causes.  The treatment should address the etiology.  Simple areolar enlargement can be addressed with sugery in the office  that leaves a scar around the perimeter of the areola.  Many times, there are other issues that need to be addressed such as breast ptosis(droopy breasts) or tuberous or constricted breasts(snoopy breasts).  These 2 conditions require a breast uplift possibly with implants to achieve an optimal result.  Certainly this scenario is not quick or inexpensive.  Correction of areolar enlargement can be performed before pregnancy, but  there is an increased liklihood of requiring a revision down the road.
