I am American and had liposuction on my double chin 5 days ago. My bulge under my chin still looks the same if not slightly worse. I had been mugged about 5 years ago and my jaw broken, but I dont think the scar tissue, would have affected my double chin as the tissue never felt strange before and I have had it for years.
Is it possible that the swelling will still go way down? I've been on a million blogs and my doctor is on holiday till the 17th. Every where I read seems to say "After 2 weeks" most of the swelling is gone. True? THANK YOU!
At five days post-op, swelling is expected in the area of the liposuctioned. It may take a few weeks for the swelling and bruising to progressively diminish and abate. Most often, there is subtle swelling with gradual improvement that will continue for several months. For now, I recommend that you be patient and revisit your surgeon when he returns.
I am having the area below my chin and jawline liposuctioned. I am wondering how long will it be until I look pretty normal, and how long will it take until I see my full results? Thank you!
There is always some post-operative swelling and bruising. The greater the swelling and bruising, the longer it takes until your face and neck appear well or, as you say, “pretty normal.” Of course, cover-up makeup can be worn almost immediately (except around the incision line).
The degree of swelling and bruising is determined by the surgeon, the extent of the procedure, and your own bruising and healing factors. In most cases, patients should expect to look reasonably well within a couple of weeks or so. In most cases, swelling reduces and the contours tend to improve for at least for several months. I would expect “full results” in 3 to 6 months, if not sooner.
Had lipo, no skin removed, one week ago. My neck is still partically numb. Also, when I laugh, one side of my mouth feels like it's not working totally right. Is all this normal?
In performing liposuction of the neck, the skin is undermined with appropriate
instrumentation (cannulas). Combined with expected mild swelling, there is a temporary numbness produced in all cases. This numbness gradually improves but it often takes at least several weeks and often up to several months to completely abate.
Without knowing more about your specific procedure, seeing photos, etc., I am unable to comment about the function of the side of your mouth. Nevertheless, in general, time is on your side. I recommend waiting a few months to see if there is resolution. Of course, it is always best to follow-up with your doctor regarding these matters.
