I have done my Zoom whitening 2 years ago and i really want to get it done again. The only problem is that i am a student now and i can not afford to pay $400 again. A friend of mine referred my to this dental hygiene clinic that offers teeth whitening in Toronto for $179. She had really good results and i am really considering to give it a try, but what is the difference between a dentist and a dental Hygienist?
Dental whitening can be done by the dentist or the hygienist as long as they have had the proper training in Zoom whitening; however, you should not have whitening performed without an exam by a dentist and it should also be done in the supervision of a dentist. If there are complications, you would want to have a dentist nearby.
Does whitening toothpaste (Colgate, Crest, etc) really work? Are they to abrasive?
Whitening tooth pastes are very abrasive and are helpful in removing "extrinsic" stains on teeth or stains on the outside of your teeth.
Whitening, works more like Oxy-Clean using a safe derivative of hydrogen peroxide to remove the stains from deep within your teeth.
If you have sensitivity or recession, whitening tooth paste is not good for you.
Good luck!
I already have sensitive teeth to any cold, but want to whiten my teeth. Any and all tips welcomed.
If you are already prone to tooth sensitivity and still want to bleach, I'd advise you to follow this protocol:
- Always bleach at home with custom, lab-fabricated bleaching trays; nothing fits better or will obtain better results.
- Minimize bleaching time to 15-30 minutes only, utilizing a 20% or 37% carbamide peroxide whitening gel.
- Pre-medicate with 600 mg Ibuprofen 45 minutes before you bleach. You can also pretreat your teeth with a fluoride (varnish or a prescription paste like Fluoridex or Prevident) at the same time.
- Don't overload the trays, use minimal amounts of bleach, about the size of a BB in each tray well.
- Brush all remnants of bleach off the teeth immediately following treatment and rinse well. Use fluoride or a prescription desensitizer, like potassium nitrate, inside the trays and "soak" the teeth.
- Be careful not to dehydrate the teeth too much; this is accomplished by short treatment times and thorough rinsing when finished.
Hope this helps.
