I went for a consultation to get a filler in my nasolabial folds. The Doctor suggested to inject Radiesse in my cheeks instead. Said that they are little flat, and filling them would take care of the nasolabial folds, (no need to inject Radiesse in them). Does this truly work?
First let me say that I don't ever recommend Radiesse as a filler for first-time patients. There is no way to remove Radiesse if you don't like it, so I always prefer patients start with Juvederm or Restylane. With that being said, no, I don't think you can fill the cheeks and alter the facial structure enough to not need to fill the NLF lines. It is a good idea to fill the cheeks (and I do often use Radiesse in this area), but I never do it to replace filling the NLF lines. I would say if you need it in your NLF lines, you should start with Juvederm or Restylane in that area and go from there. At least if you don't like it, you can take it out with hyaluronidase. If you do, you can build from there and possibly get filler injected into your cheeks at a later time.
Approximately 3 weeks ago I went to have my cheeks enhanced with radiesse. Initially the procedure seemed to go well, but within one week I had major swelling ,hardness and pain across both cheeks all the way up to my eyes. I ended up in the emergency room and the Drs. did a CAT scan. results came back showing signs of infection directly related to the product injected in my face. I was put on antibiotics for 10 days and medicine for pain. I now have two odd shaped lumps and a raised ridge.
I am sorry about your experience. There is unfortunately no easy fix for this, as hyaluronidase doesn't work on Radiesse and there is no product that counteracts Radiesse. However, some things may be able to do be done to make it less noticeable while it dissolves on its own. I would suggest you consult with a dermatologist or plastic surgeon who has a vast amount of knowledge in injectables and go over your options.
I am very unhappy with Radiesse injections in my cheeks and am anxious to remove it. Is Hyaluronidase what should be used to dissolve the filler? Most importantly, I'm very concerned about losing underlying fat in my cheeks, is there a risk that I will have less than my natural fullness after this procedure? Thank you so much
I rarely, rarely suggest Radiesse ever be used as a first time filler. Unfortunately, unlike with other hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm and Restylane, Radiesse cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase. I would hope this would have been explained to you prior to your injections. There is nothing other than time that will work to get rid of your Radiesse.
