Hi! I was wondering if surgeons specialize in hairline reduction or is it something any cosmetic surgeon can claim to do? I just happened to notice some surgeons claim to perform the procedure but it is not on the list of procedures they do perform. I'm just scared that a particular surgeon might be messing around with me and I just need advice. Thank you to all who respond.
Certainly there are surgeons who do a lot more hair transplants and hair line advancements than others. In the Northern Cali area Sheldon Kabaker is the grandfather of this sort of work. He's in Oakland.
It can be competative for cosmetic surgeons of all types and we all want to work, however, I don't think you would be mislead by someone who had never done the procedure. That being said, if said surgeon can't produce some evidence that they have performed an advancement successfully and you're unsure you should seek another consult.
The advancment does require some skill and experience, so in that respect, yes you should seek someone who performs that as part of their practice. An experienced surgeon should talk to you about all of your options. I agree with the other surgeons on this page that hair transplantation should be discussed with you.
Best of luck

I have a large forehead. It also slants down similar to a caveman with a very thick brow area. I have always had to wear my bangs long to cover my forehead but since I am also receding now, my hair is becoming too thin to do this. Is there a way to get rid of the ridge as well as make the forehead smaller? What is the recovery time for a procedure like this?
Hard to say without seeing pictures, but the first thing is that if an anterior hairline incision is used, then the hair bearing scalp can be moved forward to reduce the vertical height of the forehead. As to the slanted appearance in profile, a combination of reducing the thicker bone down low behind your eyebrows and potentially putting in a custom implant or filler to the upper forehead bony area could make the slanted look better. That is a lot of surgery and you would be swollen for a while though.
I know this seems like a silly question, but I see both terms used and am not sure if they're the same surgery...
The names are used interchangeably, but in truth they imply different things. The brow is just the area directly behind the eyebrow while the forehead extends to the hairline. The common use of both terms has confused the issue. When all of the tissues are lifted in a forehead lift, the skin and muscle of the forehead along wiith the brows are placed higher. In older days there were procedures called direct brow lifts where a strip of skin was removed directly above the eyebrow and nothing was done to the forehead. It looked good in some men but could leave pale scars that were hard to hide.
