Is it Normal to Harvest Fat but Not Transfer the Fat Until a Later Date?

Is it ever the standard of care to harvest fat for fat grafting and not inject at the same session? My doctor wants to freeze the fat and inject it in two months.

A: Frozen fat for fat transfer

There is mixed evidence about frozen fat and its viability.  If you have fat harvested properly (high percentage of viable grafts), you should get it transferred right then.  You really should not need to go back and add more fat later.

Can a Patient Who Had Fat Injections Under the Eye, Gain Weight in That Area?

Can a patient who had fat injections under the eye, ends up gain weight in the under eye area?

A: Fat Grafts Best at Stable Weight

hi "proud":  both fat grafting and liposuction involve reliance on the normal behavior of your fat cells to determine your results.  liposuction results are best when your weight and fitness level is stable. weight gain can undermine your result because our fat cells have a nearly infinite ability to gain more fat!  so only the fat cells that are "gone"  no longer can pick up any extra fat from that extra few pounds.  when fat cells are transplanted to a new location, weight loss or gain can also change that result.  ordinarily the fat that is transplanted is from the area of fat that is most resistent to weight loss (the last trouble area left...) and we are happy that it is hard to lose that transplanted fat unless the weight loss is significant.  but the downside is that you can also build up extra fat in those transplanted cells when weight gain occurs.  while there are reports of significant shifts in fat grafted areas with large weight gains, i  have found this to be quite unusual and corrective measures are possible should the unlikely actually happen.  i find that fat grafting around the eye area is the most natural in appearance as well as feel, and is an excellent and very long lasting option for under eye hollows.   best of luck to you!  dr h

How Much Does Fat Injection Cost?

How much do fat injections typically cost for face treatments?

A: Fat Transfer Cost

Fat transfer (fat grafting/injections) is one of the most technically and artistically challenging procedures in facial rejuvenation.  It is also one of the most rewarding if done well.  The results will leave the face fresh looking, healthy, and fundamentally naturally rejuvenated.  In order to get it right, the surgeon needs to make sure the fat grafts are living by the time they harvest them and isolate them.  Next, the way it is injected will also determine if the grafts will take a permanent residence in the injected area.  These aspects are technical and if anything is done incorrectly here the grafts won't make it. This is the technical aspect of the procedure.  The artistic part comes from making sure things look natural and enhanced in the correct way.  As a result of the demanding nature of the procedure, the cost will vary with a trend toward great expense to have a surgeon with a proven long-term track record.  Cost will also vary based on areas treated.  For example, the cost of injecting fat under the eyes only is less expensive than injecting it throughout the whole face. One word of advice... when it comes to fat transfer DO NOT price shop.  Since the results are permanent, if it is not done right, the consequences can be very difficult to correct.
