I have been getting botox injections for neckbanding for 3 years with no problems. Lately, I have been experiencing sleep apnea symptoms when I lay flat (I have never snored)but when I add 3 pillows I sleep okay. These symptoms seem to subside about 3 months after last botox treatment for neck. Do you think there is any connection? If so, would Xeomin be a better alternative to botox? I understand it has fewer side effects. BTW, Botox has always done a nice job for me hiding neckbands.
I think your sleep apnea has nothing to do with your Botox injections. For it to be related there would have been numerous other muscles between your neck and your soft palate that the Botox would have touched that there would have been other problems.
I'm a 45 year old woman considering botox for platysmal bands but very concerned about swallowing/breathing difficulties reported. However unlikely. I have googled any number of key words, but not been able to find what kind of dosage level the people had who had trouble? And would it be a sensible strategy to have the dosage in two batches - say 20 units one week with another20 the next? To establish that placement of the 1st ok and neither dosage of itself big enough to paralyse esophagus?
The problems you describe with Botox use for platysmal bands can be does related, but it is also location and diffusion related. If the material is placed or it spreads deeper than the skin, then the issues can occur, even if a minimal amount is used. I am afraid that your suggestion of staged injections will not make it any safer.
I forgot my Vial of Botox at home in the refrigerator when I had my bladder injections done at the hospital. I had to buy a new bottle there. My box at home has an expiry date of Oct.2012. Will this still be stable next January when I have the procedure done again ? Also would it be best to store it in the refrigerator or freezer for that length of time ? Thanks for any feedback.
in the US it is illegal for the patient to have bottles of Botox. It will be guaranteed sterile until the expiration date, as long as it has not already been reconstituted. Once diluted it needs to be used within 4 hours. If you use it past the date of expiration it will likely still work, but it might not last as long. I would keep it frozen.
