I didn't respond to nasal sprays and meds that my dr had given me so she ordered a ct scan of my paranasal sinuses and it concluded that I have a septal deviation of 5-6 mm and a nasal septal spur. Im always congested and even on the rare occasion that I'm not I have a hard time breathing through my nose. Will I need septoplasty?
If you have trouble breathing (nasal obstruction) and also have a deviated septum, you will likely improve from a septoplasty. Occasionally, an inferior turbinate reduction will also be needed. But if there is a fixed physical obstruction in the nose, correcting it should significantly improve your symptoms of nasal obstruction.
I had my last septoplasty in an ENT clinic but I'm getting a septoplasty/rhinoplasty now because of the injury I had that changed the external appearance of the nose. My question is, should I have septoplasty/rhinoplasty done in an ENT clinic? I don't get to choose the surgeon. They have a facial plastic surgeon who performs surgery in their clinic twice a year. So, I don't know if I could have a rhinoplasty done by him.
The important thing to keep in mind is that a rhinoplasty is a very different operation than septoplasty. It is one that combines the surgeons specific experience and training with rhinoplasty, their technical skills, and their artistic vision. The best chance you have to get the surgery right and get a favorable and satisfying outcome is on the first attempt. So pick your surgeon carefully. Even if it means going outside your clinic or insurance. Generally, finding someone who is trained in Facial Plastic Surgery or a Plastic Surgery is a good place to start. Good luck.
I have what feels like a continuous lump running along both sides of my septum, near the bridge of my nose but nowehere near the incision. On the opposite side, the new obstruction is now worse than my original deviation. It feels like something was pushed up after Septoplasty and hasn't come down again. My nose was very tightly packed after surgery. I still get tingling, an itchy tip, and my nose aches sometimes so I can't wear glasses. I'm hoping all this just means it's healing nicely.
The most likely cause of this is normal post operative swelling. I am sure your surgeon would like to see you for follow-up at which point he or she can advise you on the status of your healing. I would recommend that you see you surgeon for post-op appointments to make sure things are healing appropriately.
