Can a Doctor Confirm a Lipoma by Just Touch?

I have several plump up on my back.My doctor touched it and said it was a lipoma. Can a doctor confirm a lipoma by just touch? Do I need any further inspection?

A: Lipomas are fatty tissue deposits

Lipomas are fatty tissue deposits. Most experienced dermatologists or dermatological surgeons can feel them and know if it's a lipoma or other fatty-type cyst just by touch. The only way to know for sure, though, is to take it out and send it to a lab.

I Have a Lipoma on the Inside of my Thigh Invovling Nerve Pain to my Thigh While Standing, What Type of Surgeon Do I Look For?

A: Lipoma removal and nerve pain

A good surgical dermatologist or plastic surgeon can remove this. If any felt it was out of their scope upon examination, they should refer you out to a specialist, but it really depends on where the nerve pain is going, how intense it is, etc. A lot of times simply removing the lipoma will just end the nerve pain so it's not necessary to see anyone more specialized. I'd at least start with a surgical dermatologist or plastic surgeon, with body experience.

I Want a Lipoma Removed from Between my Legs. Its Near my Vagina, Should I Worry?

I Want a Lipoma Removed from Between my Legs.  Its Near my Vagina.

A: Lipoma removal

Whenever a lipoma or cyst in this area is removed, it should be sent in to a lab for review and diagnosis. So no, don't worry, and get it removed.
