Is It Possible to Remove Permanent Filler?

is it possible to remove a permament filler in cheek after 1 year, with surgery?

A: Removing permanent filler

Removing permanent filler can be done, but you need to know that it's difficult and some scarring may occur, depending upon the area and type of filler being removed. I have removed silicone from many people's lips over the years but it does require several procedures and healing time. I would say you need to be evaluated by a physician who has done a great deal of filler removal and who has a great grasp of facial aesthetics.

31 Year Old Male, Looking for Best Treatment for Malar Crescents (photo)

I have a line on my face on each side of my nose. It extends from the junction between my nose and inside of eye to the edge of my cheek bone on each side of my face. I have had these since I was 25. I went to see a plastic surgeon who informed that what I had was Malar Crescents. Since I'm 31 and don't really actually have any other wrinkles he did not recommend any type of surgery. He recommended using Radiesse to fill the crescent. What is the best treatment for Malar Crescents?

A: A filler is probably a good choice

Injecting a filler in to this area will definitely help smooth it out. While I agree that Radiesse would be a good choice, I usually don't like to do Radiesse on first time filler patients. I prefer to start with Restylane or Juvederm so that the patient and I both know that if they really don't like how fillers work or look, the product can be taken out with hyaluronidase to allow the patient to return to their baseline. There is no product available to counter Radiesse so if patients don't like it, they just have to wait for it to disappear on its own, which can be upwards of a year.

Is Delayed Eye Swelling Normal with Cheek Implants?

I had cheek implants 7 days ago and the initial swelling was as expected around the lip and cheek areas. Over the last day my lower eyelid has swollen to the point where it's nearly closed. This happened overnight. Is it normal? The other eye also has very minor swelling over the same period. My concern is that it might be an infection or rejection. I expected swelling to gradually decrease, not to decrease then to suddenly form elsewhere after 1 week. many thanks

A: Delayed Eye Swelling

Swelling can move and adjust as you are healing from any procedure, so the eye swelling may not be something to be too concerned about. However, if you are experiencing any new pain or tenderness, or if you are worried, call the physician who did your treatment - he or she should be able to address your concerns and explain what to expect.
