Should I Have Seen Results Immediately Post-op - Lipo?

I had lipo on my inner thighs/knees yesterday. It was tumescent/smart lipo with suction. My surgeon removed approx x500cc from each thigh + inner knee (i'm short, pudgy legs, approximately 130lbs). When I stood up directly following the procedure, I didn't see any obvious change in the appearance of my legs. Was enough fat removed to see a significant change? I know fat was removed from my knee area, but I especially don't see any change there. Does the skin have to retract first? anxious.

A: Swelling following Liposuction

After getting liposuction you will have swelling that can last up to six months.  Hopefully you were given compression garmets to wear 24 hours a day.  This will help with the swelling and contouring.

I Am Concerned About Aging and the Effect the Liposuction Will Have Long Term?

I am 25 yr old female, and have my surgery date for Liposuction of my ab/flanks/back/thighs in 2 wks.. Possibly side effects later in life due to lipo? 20 yrs from now, will I have any complications that may arise due to the Liposuction?

A: Long Term Risks of Liposuction

There have been no long term effects identified with liposuction, which has been performed around 30 years now.

The risks and potential complications of liposuction are short term and most are related to the risks of any operation:  bleeding, scars, wrinkled skin, asymmetry, numbness, bruising, pain, skin discoloration, allergic reactions, DVT (deep vein thrombosis), pulmonary embolism, intra-abdominal penetration, swelling, unrealistic expectations and the need for further surgery.  Most liposuction procedures proceed very smoothly, please verify that your surgeon is a board certified plastic surgeon and the operating suite is nationally accredited.

Good Luck!

Liposuction Before Pregnancy?

I always hear of people getting liposuction to get their body back after having a baby, but what about if you want the lipo before the baby? Is liposuction advised for someone who is planning to have a baby in the next 1-2 yrs?

A: Liposuction before pregnancy

Liposuction could be done either before childbearing or after childbearing. We would not expect the fat to return to these areas.
